Biography
Winfrida Mokaya Boyani is the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary. Mokaya was appointed after a competitive recruitment process, where six other candidates were interviewed for the post.
She succeeds Hon Anne Amadi whose term came to an end this year.
Other candidates who were interviewed for the post are: Ms. Rose Macharia Wachuka, Jack Ouma Busalile Mwimali, Ms. Anne Wambeti Ireri, Hon Paul N. Maina, Hon Caroline Kendagor Jepyegen and Hon Kennedy Kandet Lenkamai.
Education
Winfrida attended Kipsigis Girls High School between 1984 and 1989 where she attained her Kenya Certificate of Education and Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education.
Thereafter, she joined the University of Nairobi in 1990 where she studied for a Bachelor of Laws and attained Upper Second-Class honours before joining the Kenya School of Law in 1994 for her post-graduate Diploma in Law.
Later, Mokaya went on to return to the University of Nairobi where she is currently a Candidate in the Master’s in Law program.
In addition, she is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) with a Strategic Leadership and Management Certification from the Kenya School of Government.
Similarly, Mokaya has undertaken nine selected leadership and management professional trainings including Strategic Leadership, Board and Executive Management and Modern administration.
Winfrida Mokaya Experience
Hon. Mokaya has over 27 years’ experience in the legal profession. Prior to her appointment she has been serving as the Registrar, Judicial Service Commission since 2012.
She joined the Judiciary in 1997 and served as a District Magistrate II(Prof), Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate and Senior Principal Magistrate.
Winfrida will serve for a five-year term as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary.
She will also be the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission as well as Secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice (NCAJ).
In her 36-page submission as part of her application for the Chief Registrar of Judiciary job vacancy, Mokaya titled it ‘The Road Ahead’, and branded her agenda ‘A Calling to Deliver’.
Outside of work, Mokaya contributes to the community by providing annual financial support to the House of Charity Children’s Home in Nairobi, including paying school fees for children in his family and community.
