Musician Bahati To Vie For Nairobi Governor

Musician Kelvin Bahati has declared interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial race come 2027.

Speaking at an interview Bahati made the announcement saying that he believes he has what it takes to be the next governor of Nairobi.

“Governor nayo nasimama 2027.Hiyo nayo ni ukweli Si mi ndio governor Nairobi. (I will be vying for governor’s seat in 2027)

Asked whether he has the money to vie, he stated that it’s not about the money as those who have money have been rejected by the people before. He also stated that he believes citizens want leaders who can help them, and he is the perfect person for that job.

 Bahati has shown interest in national politics before

“Unajua wale wenye wako na pesa wamekataliwa na wananchi. Wnanchi waataka watu wanaweza wasaidia, na huyo ni mimi. (Those who have money have been rejected by the people before. People want those who can help them, and that is me.)

This is the second time the singer has shown interest in elective politics. In 2022, he vied for Mathare Member of Parliament on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Bahati otherwise known as Kevin Kioko emerged third in the heavily contested race. Anthony Oluoch of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party won the seat followed by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s ) Billian Ojiwa.

The ‘Adhiambo’ hitmaker now wishes to succeed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja in 2027.

Bahati is a Kenyan musician and entertainer. He rose to fame in the music industry in 2013 as a gospel artist but later diversified into secular music. He has established a record label known as Eastland’s Most Beloved (EMB) Records.

Besides music, Bahati and his wife Diana Marua have a reality show on Netflix, known as ‘The Bahati Empire.’  The couple also had a reality show on NTV known as ‘Being Bahati’ and was the first Kenyan couple to have a reality show.
