Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba is contemplating her twitter exit, after bullies descended on her after the Tuesday incident, where Senate Speaker kicked her out over an “inappropriate” dress code. Orwoba went into the Senate sitting, clad in stained clothes.
In her bid to create awareness on menstrual hygiene, Orwoba turned up in an immaculate pair of white pants, which appeared stained. in her defense, she was enlightening the members of the senate on “period shame” and the struggles that schoolgirls endure during their cycle.
Speaking during an interview with Hot 96 on Thursday morning, she confessed to being on the receiving end of trolls on the blue bird app. she jokingly passed that mantle over to Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu who has grown thick skin. Nyamu was also kicked out on the Tuesday Sitting due to “indecent” clothing.

“This thing of having a thick skin, no! We are human beings. In fact, I am contemplating leaving Twitter. That whole cyber-bullying thing I will leave to Nyamu (Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu). She knows how to deal with it,” she said.
she admitted talking to Nyamu on the issue and she advised her to move on, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it as the backlash gets to her each time
“I was talking to Senator Nyamu about it, and she said no (to her leaving Twitter). She said the moment you get through it and cross to the other side no one can tell you anything. But it is intense, and it gets to you. I won’t lie that I don’t care because it really gets to me,” said Orwaba
Orwoba was bashed by her colleagues including fellow nominated senator Tabitha Mutinda who raised the matter on the floor. Senator Ledama also advised her to find better ways of addressing her issues. She however received back up from Nairobi County boss Johnson Sakaja who through his twitter handle on Wednesday termed her ‘move as bold and provocative.”
Senator Gloria Orwoba. That was bold and provocative. To change some things you must make people uncomfortable and you did! I’ll do my part in Nairobi for our girls.

In her response, she hailed Sakaja for “understanding what is happening” and urged him to take up the cause in the capital.
“Kudos to Sakaja. We need men like those who understand what is happening to be part of the conversation. I hope he allocates something in their county budget towards menstrual health,” she said.
She will not be the first politician to quit twitter due to trolls. speaking during the launch of BBI IN 2020, the then President Uhuru Kenyatta admitted to quitting twitter due to the abuse on the platform.
“I meet people personally and we engage, I don’t fancy social media. Si mnaona hata Twitter niliondoka huko kwa sababu niliona hio kitu ni bure na ni matusi tu ndio imejaa huko, hakuna kitu inaendelea.”His Twitter account was deactivated in March 2019 with State House saying it was to clean up access
