Singer Jose Chameleone Hospitalized in Critical Condition

Ugandan Musician Joseph Mayanja better known as Jose Chameleone was hospitalized December 12 in critical condition.

 In a video trending on social media, a frail Chameleon is seen being helped out of a car and onto a stretcher before being taken inside a hospital in Uganda.

His management issued a statement saying fans should not worry as the musician was receiving the best medical care and that it is optimistic that he will recover.

Management issues statement

“To all the Leone Island Music Empire fans and well-wishers, we understand that the news of Jose Chameleone’s hospitalization may have caused worry but we want to assure you he is receiving the best medical attention and we are optimistic about his recovery,” read the statement in part.

While management did not specify what is ailing the musician, it asked members of the public to give Chameleon and his family privacy and promised to update his fans on his condition.

“We kindly request that you respect Chameleone’s privacy and that of his family as they navigate this challenging period. We will update on his condition and appreciate your continued support and prayers,” read another part of the statement.

Jose Chameleone falls ill at the US

In 2023, the singer had been hospitalized at the Aline Medical Hospital Hospital in the US, for stomach-related complications. He was later discharged and resumed his music performances.

The musician’s health has been on and off. Before falling ill in the US, the singer had been hospitalized at Nakasaro Hospital in Uganda, having suffered a liver and pancreatic disorder. He was discharged a week later.

Chameleone is a celebrated musician for his contribution to music in East Africa. He has a unique blend of music including reggae, afrobeat, and dancehall. He has produced over 20 albums including Badilisha and Wale Wale.

The Valu Valu hitmaker has won numerous awards including All Africa Music Awards, Kisima Music Awards, and the Pearl of Africa Music Awards.
