Nellie’s unconventional story of being happily married to her three husbands – Jimmy, Danny, and Hassan – has captured the attention of many.
Following the death of her first husband in a car accident, Nellie married her brother-in-law and later the other two men. Despite being the sole breadwinner as a car dealer, Nellie provides for all three of her unemployed husbands and has even bought them each a car. They all live together in one house and enjoy each other’s company.

Nellie trusts that her husbands will not cheat on her because they are content, and she treats them equally. The trio have cohabited for three years and claim to have become best friends. Their mutual respect has fostered a peaceful living environment.
Their joy might, however, be short-lived as Tanzanian lawyer Nicodemus Agweyo revealed that Polyandry is against the law and is, therefore, punishable.
His recent pronouncement on polyandry has sparked discussions around its punishable nature. While polygamy is legally recognized, marrying multiple men as a woman is a criminal offense that could imprison one for up to three years. Agweyo asserts that there are no alternatives to this sentence, including fines.
He further notes that a man who marries a woman already married, regardless of cultural or religious practices, is also committing a crime punishable by imprisonment of up to three years.
