Others are looking forward to attending an interview in the forthcoming year to shift into greener pastures on acquire their new jobs.

  1. Arriving late

The very first mistake to watch out for and avoid is arriving late for an interview. This is because the mistake appeals to your ability to manage time probably and effectively. Consequently, it will portray to your interviewee that you will not be able to keep up with the organization’s schedule. To avoid this, make sure you set aside enough time for your journey.

  1. Casual greetings

Another unforgivable mistake likely to be committed by many individuals is the impolite greeting without eye contact. Despite the excitement that comes with interviews you need to keep cool and calm to respond correctly and appropriately in a professional manner.

  1. Insufficient information about the prospective employer

Wearing inappropriate clothing can create a negative impression of yourself. To avoid this common job interview mistake, make sure to tailor your attire to match the expectations of your future workplace.

  1. Paying attention to Mobile Phones

In this age of rapid growth in technology, many individuals have found themselves slaves to the media.

Furthermore, the majority tend to be less social in public but more into social media thus affecting their interpersonal interactions. Paying much attention to your mobile phone will automatically disqualify you for the job. Attention should be directed at the interviewer.

  1. Overestimating your capabilities

An inflated ego can be off-putting. To make a positive impression in your interview, focus on sharing valuable, yet objective, information about yourself.

  1. Unable to take criticism

At some point, you may be asked critical questions. To such, answer not angrily instead react calmly and professionally.

  1. Engaging in meaningless small talk

Weigh your words and their meaning. Before responding to a question take a minute to brainstorm and give a respectable and appropriate answer.

However, engaging in small talk is not a 100 per cent turn-off, meaningless ones come across as unprofessional and demonstrate an inability to concentrate on what is significant.
