Several passengers are feared dead after an accident involving a truck ferrying LPG and several matatus.
The lorry lost control and collided with three vehicles at the Mai Mahiu escarpment.
According to preliminary reports, several casualties were trapped below a matatu that overturned after the accident.
The matatu was knocked over from behind by the truck and rolled down the escarpment.
“One person in critical condition was rushed to the hospital, while eleven others were attended to at the scene of a road traffic incident involving a trailer and a 14-seater matatu in Mai Mahiu,” Kenya Red Cross stated.

Additionally, a family that was transporting the body of a loved one from Nairobi to Rongo, is reported to have been traveling in one of the hit vehicles.
Witnesses have detailed that a matatu belonging to Galaxy Shuttle rolled down a cliff, landing upside down. Another van also rolled down the cliff.
At the same time, a tour van was also hit, and the back of its window was completely shattered.
First responders and well-wishers rushed to the scene to rescue the trapped survivor.

Kenyan Athletes in Accident
On September 9, eight Kenyan athletes were involved in a road accident after a vehicle they were traveling in collided with another PSV along the Eldoret- Nakuru Highway in the Ngata area.
Speaking after receiving treatment, one of the athletes, Lewis Kipkemboi, narrated that the team was on its way home after participating in the 3rd edition of the Nairobi City Marathon.
“We were traveling after participating in the Nairobi City County Marathon. We made a stopover in Nakuru and relaxed for about one hour. Shortly after resuming our journey, the vehicle crashed into another one. I don’t remember exactly what happened. I am grateful to God for protecting us,” he said.
On the other hand, Isiolo High Court Judge Cherere Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae sustained injuries after a vehicle she was traveling in rolled into a ditch.
Latest data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) details that road accidents across the country have claimed at least 3,056 lives between January 1 and August 27, 2024, an increase of 146 deaths compared to the 2,910 recorded in the same period in 2023.
Since the year started 7,114 Kenyans have been involved in road accidents, marking an increase of 703 compared to last year, 3674 were seriously injured and 585 suffered from minor injuries.
