Activist Hanifa Farsafi has addressed concerns raised by an X user regarding the transparency of the donation process for families of victims who lost their lives during the recent Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.
Hanifa, along with other youth activists, have been collecting funds through an online platform called M-Changa.
The donations are intended to help the families of protest victims cover medical expenses and burial costs.
An X user named Lord Abraham Mutai expressed doubts about Hanifa’s management of the money.
Mutai demanded that Hanifa publish the names of all victims who received funds, all M-Pesa transaction details, the total amount contributed, and a breakdown of how the money was spent.

He also accused Hanifa of using the donations to make herself wealthy.

“Hanifa should publish; 1. Names of all victims he has sent money 2. All M-Pesa transactions 3. Total amount contributed 4. Breakdown of all money used and where it was sent… otherwise, this is an #MchangaScandal. Making Hanifa a millionaire!” said Mutai.
Hanifa Responds to the Allegations
In response, Hanifa issued a statement clarifying that she does not have direct control over the funds, as they are handled by M-Changa.
She explained that she had already shared all the receipts, which M-Changa will compile into a PDF.
“I’m not the one with the money but M-Changa. and I’ve posted all the receipts, and they’ll generate the PDF,” she stated.
“Your phone must be heating up from the notifications of mentioning my name,” she added.
Hanifa Issues Update Asking for Patience
Later, Hanifa provided an update, explaining that the bank does not operate on weekends, so the payments can only be processed on Monday.
She asked for patience and assured that all donors who have sent the required funds will be prioritized on Monday.

Hanifa Sends Funds to Families of Fallen Protest Victims
On Friday June 28, Hanifa through her X account shared screenshots detailing the transactions of the donated funds.
She also revealed that the families of Rex Kanyike and Evans Kiratu received Ksh.1 million each all meant for the two fallen protesters’ funerals.
“Hello guys. Remember Rex and Evan’s? The first victims of this cruel regime. We have sent one million each to their families that’s their mum.
“The remaining will be sent to the family of Ian, who was shot three times on the back and won’t be able to walk again. This is minus the hospital bills. He will receive tomorrow since the bank limit can’t allow us today,” stated Hanifa.
