An autopsy conducted on the body of gospel singer Rachel Wandeto has confirmed that she died from severe burns covering 85 percent of her body.
Speaking after the post-mortem examination at the Kenyatta National Hospital on May 22, government pathologist Johansen Oduor said the extensive burns resulted in severe complications that eventually caused Wandeto’s death.
Oduor explained that the skin plays a critical role in protecting the body by retaining water, electrolytes, proteins, and nutrients, and by preventing infections.
He noted that severe burns compromise these functions, exposing victims to fatal complications.
“As we know, the skin is usually the largest organ of the body, and it protects your body in many ways, contains water in your body, contains electrolytes, contains proteins, nutrients, and also prevents you from getting an infection,” Oduor said.
“So, once you get such example burns, complications come in, and all those things can lead to your death.”
DCI Arrests Main Suspect
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested the main suspect, Josiah Njeru Njiri, on Wednesday, May 13.
Investigators alleged that Njeru Njiri, believed to have been Wandeto’s regular taxi driver, was involved in the murder of the gospel artist.
Further, DCI investigators said the suspect was the last person known to have communicated with the deceased.
