One person died and several others were left injured after gunmen sprayed a bus with bullets along the Moyale-Marsabit highway in Moyale, Marsabit County.
In a video seen by The Kenya Times, the bus is shown with numerous bullet holes in various parts.
Reports indicate that the gunmen opened fire, spraying bullets that burst a tire and shattered windows.
The Salama bus was attacked between Bori Junction and Dadach Lakole while it was headed from Moyale to Nairobi. Four people were rushed to Sololo Mission Hospital, where one succumbed to injuries before reaching the facility.
It is reported that the attackers might be members of the Shifta group, a known militant faction in the region.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.
However, the Ministry of Interior and the National Police Service (NPS) have not yet commented on the matter.
Marsabit County has experienced periodic violence and attacks often linked to ethnic conflicts, banditry, and criminal activities by militant groups.
7 Killed in Marsabit Lorry Attack
On August 13, six passengers and a driver were killed after heavily armed men set a lorry on fire at Eledimtu along the Forolle-Turbi Road in Marsabit.
Police reported that the incident occurred just a few kilometers from the Ethiopian border at around 9 p.m.
The police said the armed men attacked the lorry and set it ablaze, but a minor who was among the passengers managed to escape and reported the incident.
Eastern Regional Police Commander Charles Naibei said the attackers shot at the lorry before setting it on fire.
Two other people were injured in the attack that happened on Monday night, according to the police.
According to Naibei, the victims were transporting food from the border town to other parts of the country when they were ambushed.

OCS Attacked
This came after the disappearance of a police OCS, whose Land Cruiser was hijacked by gunmen on Saturday, August 10, in Mandera County.
Deputy County Commissioner for Mandera East, Patrick Meso was attacked, and his driver was killed on the spot.

Other Attacks
Additionally, suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked Mandera County on July 12, killing four security officers.
A similar incident occurred on April 29 in Elwak Town, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed ten people. On March 25, terrorists struck Mandera town, killing three people, including two police officers.
Police Commissioner Alex Mbuvi Munguti from Mandera Police Station and Cyprian Kuta from QRU Arabia lost their lives after an explosion at Fish Point Hotel.
