Caroline Njoki, a close friend of Charlene Ruto and a member of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) board has announced the launch of a school feeding program through her Njoki wa Mathira Foundation.

The program will benefit Ihiga Primary School in Mathira, Njoki’s former school where she was the top student a decade ago.

In a statement made on July 5, Njoki expressed her excitement to give back to the school that played a crucial role in her success.

“Today, I’m making a special visit to my village. It has been 10 years since I graduated from Ihiga Primary School as the top student in my class. Today, I am going back with a heart full of gratitude and excitement.”

“This school gave me so much, and now it is my turn to give back. I cannot wait to see the smiles on those young faces and be a part of their journey to success,” she said.

Njoki’s initiative is aimed at ensuring that every child at the school has the nourishment needed to thrive and succeed.

Murkomen Appoints Caroline Njoki to the KPA Board

In January 2023, Caroline Njoki was appointed as a member of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) board by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Njoki, popularly known as Njoki wa Mathira, was among the few people appointed to the board after Murkomen reportedly sent half the previous members packing.

The appointment, made through a gazette notice dated January 20, 2023, revealed that Njoki along with the other appointees would serve a three-year term at the post effective Monday, January 23, 2023.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (f) of the Kenya Ports Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints the aforementioned,” read part of the notice.

Her appointment came just a month after her graduation. Njoki in a statement expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her by the president, Deputy President, and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

“I am truly grateful to the president, his deputy and the CS for bestowing their trust upon me to deliver in my capacity and in the respective area assigned to me.”

“I will greatly take up this role to impact purposeful change and deliver our promises to Kenyans. To all my friends and support system, thank you,” she added.

Njoki’s Close Relationship with First Daughter Charlene Ruto

In addition to her appointment, Njoki is also known for her close friendship with President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto.

She is among the few people in the First daughter’s inner circle and the two have often been quoted referring to each other as sisters on social media.

Similarly, during Charlene’s 30th birthday in January 2023, Njoki wrote an emotional message referring to her as her “big sister.”

“Happiest birthday my big sister Charlene Ruto. You are brilliantly growing so strong with a touch of elegance. Your aura and charisma have you out here doing what you do best just being young.”

Njoki has also accompanied Charlene on various trips outside the country, including Ghana and Morocco, where they visited local schools and other places.
