Stakeholders at the ongoing Kenya National Music Festival at Dedan Kimathi University are advocating for the safety of children across the country, with widespread use of the internet.
The Communication Authority has partnered with the Ministry of Education to sensitize the public on emerging issues such as Child Online Protection through music.
According to CA Director General, Ezra Chiloba there is a need for collaboration among different actors to guarantee the safety of children.
“Consumers are a critical stakeholder, especially children and youth, as they are early adopters of ICT goods and services.
To promote productive use of the Internet and create a safer internet experience for children and youth, there is need for continued multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Our continued support to the Kenya National Music Festival is one of the means by which CA creates awareness on this important matter,” said Chiloba.
Participants used various forms of music such as choral verses to create awareness of internet safety and digital responsibility agenda.

Music Festival and nurturing values
Speaking at the event, Patricia Muchiri, Head of Public Education and Awareness Department in CA reiterated the role of music festivals over the years in nurturing positive values in children and youth.
”Over the years, the festival has emerged as an effective medium of inculcating positive values amongst children and youth.
CA intends to use this platform to enlighten children on the proper ways of using the internet as well as protecting themselves online,” said Muchiri.
“We are giving students and by extension, even teachers and parents the knowledge, skills and tools to enable them safely navigate the online space,” she added.

Muchiri also reiterated the use of the internet in the right way saying as much as it was a gateway to many opportunities it may also cause harm in equal measure.
The communication Authority also invited children, the youth, parents, teachers, and the public to engage the Authority at the festival grounds to learn more on online safety as well as learn more on the development of the ICT sector in Kenya.
