In a fresh court order on September 25, the High Court in Nairobi has ruled that four men must stand trial for the 2015 murder of former Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai.
Justice Kanyi Kimondo delivered the decision after reviewing extensive evidence presented by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a breakthrough in the long-running case of the brutal murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai,” read part of the ODPP statement.
Four Accused of Muchai Murder Case
The court found that the prosecution had built a compelling case against Eric Mungera Isabwa, Raphael Kimani Gachii, Mustafa Kimani Anyoni, and Stephen Astiva Lipopo.
The four are accused of killing Muchai, his two police bodyguards, Constable Samuel Kimathi and Constable Samuel Lekakeny, and his driver, Stephen Ituu Wambugu, in a late-night attack along Kenyatta Avenue on February 7, 2015.
Justice Kimondo stated that the DPP had presented enough credible evidence, noting that the evidence linked the accused to the crime scene and the fatal shootings.
“In a ruling delivered by Justice Kanyi Kimondo, the court affirmed that the DPP had established a strong prima facie case,” the statement confirmed.
Evidence from 37 Witnesses
Principal Prosecution Counsel Peris Maina told the court that the killings were premeditated.
Prosecutors called 37 witnesses and presented a mix of direct, circumstantial, and forensic evidence.
Among the key testimonies was that of a protected taxi driver who placed suspect Mustafa Kimani Anyoni at the center of the attack and produced a gun safety pin recovered from his vehicle.

Forensic experts later confirmed it as evidence from the murder weapon.
“Autopsy reports by Dr Johansen Oduor confirmed all four victims died of close-range gunshot wounds from high-velocity firearms,” it read.
Meanwhile, three co-accused, Jane Wanjiru Kamau, Margaret Njeri Wachiuri, and Simon Wambugu Gichamba, were acquitted after the court found insufficient evidence against them.
The case now proceeds to a defense hearing on October 22, 2025, where the four accused will be required to respond to the weight of evidence marshaled by the prosecution.
