Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed his frustration over the alleged involvement of his late brother James Nderitu Gachagua’s estate in the impeachment motion against him.

Speaking from his official residence in Karen on Monday, October 7, Gachagua condemned the move, saying that it was deeply disrespectful and inappropriate to drag his deceased brother’s name and estate into political controversies.

Also, he accused Kibwezi MP Mwengi Mutuse, accusing him of signing the motion without fully understanding its contents. According to the DP, Mutuse had not even read the document before endorsing it.

Further, Gachagua urged his critics to show more respect for the deceased, emphasizing that it was unfair and unethical to involve someone who was no longer alive to defend themselves.

Here are some notable quotes from the national address:

Notable Statements in Rigathi Gachagua’s Speech

I have considered that I was elected by the people of Kenya directly. I think it is only fair that when members of parliament want to remove the deputy president from office, the people who elected Rigathi Gachagua hear his side of the story.

It has nothing to do with gross misconduct or violation of national or international crimes. It is sheer propaganda and a scheme to kick me out of office.

An attempt at public participation was a very shady job that was done. My response was not part of what was presented to the people of Kenya. The attached documents were in a highly legalistic language that the people of Kenya could not understand. The response of the deputy president was not there to enable them to make an informed decision.

The Olive Garden hotel allegedly bought by Rigathi Gachagua belonged to the late James Nderitu Gachagua, and in his will, he directed that we sell all his property and divide the proceeds among his brothers, sisters, wife, and children. My brother knew that I am an honest man and a fair person.

My late brother in his wisdom left Rigathi 5 percent of his wealth. I was therefore able to get Ksh20 million.

He left my mother 5 % of his wealth, another 20 million. And since my mother is dead, my late brother because he trusted me put in his will that I hold my mother’s shares in trust.

He also left me another 4 % to hold in trust of the children of another brother who is deceased. My late brother gave 2% of his wealth to my wife pastor Dorcas because of her kindness in looking after him when he was ill. I am being told that all this money is the proceeds of crime.

Queens Gate apartment, another property I am told I bought while I was deputy President was my brother’s. We sold it to pay his debt.

Vipingo Beach Resort in Kilifi was my brother’s holiday home. The beautiful palatial resort on the beach, i remember with nostalgia that he used to host us there every Christmas to enjoy ourselves. It still belongs to the estate of the deceased. We want to retain it for sentimental value

In haste to dispose of Rigathi Gachagua because of political deceit and conmanship, they could not get right where the 2ha land is situated in Ruguru Kiamariga in Mathera West constituency.

Dorcas Gachagua and Sons Property Plus a Dairy Farm

I have a dairy farm with almost 150 cows and I do make an income of almost Ksh1.5 million every month

I have seen another ridiculous allegation that I acquired 80 hectares of land in Meru. I am a member of Solution Sacco in Meru and I am half Meru and half Kikuyu.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sometimes is a lonely man. When he goes home many times he is lonely, so he decided to purchase a piece of land in Meru, 26 ha, to build a house and be amongst his mother’s relatives.

Every Kenyan knows the work Dorcas Rigathi has done for the Boychild in this country. She has opened up a clinic and she gets a lot of money from that foundation.

Since a decision was made that the government will not fund the office of the wife of the deputy president, Kenyans of goodwill flocked to her every day with donations, for her to continue with the program she is doing of rehabilitating children in Kilifi, Mombasa, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nairobi, and her work is well documented

The late Gachagua left 80 apartments at Langata View Apartments to his children and asked us to sell and distribute the proceeds to his family. We decided to share the houses so that everybody could get a rental income. Because of the shares he gave to me, I have 10 flats.

How insensitive can we be? What is this power thing that you even fight the dead to entrench yourself in power?

I appeal to the people of Kenya to have respect for the dead. People may have money, power, everything. But they must remember that it is very respectful to respect the dead. Please, stop haunting my late brother

We used to sell furniture with my wife Dorcas at the Bomas roundabout. We stopped trading with the company and put up apartments in Rongai. we collect rent from 40 to 50 flats.

Because my sons are very entrepreneurial like me, they went to the bank and borrowed 600 million and bought the lease of Treetops Hotel and Outspan Hotels from KWS. They were given a year moratorium which is not yet over.

When the people of Nyeri learned that the son of the deputy president was interested in leasing Treetops hotel and renovating it, there was joy and ululation in the Aberdares.

I have no intention whatsoever to resign from this position.
