Defense Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale addressed reports on the reported appointment of June Ruto, President William Ruto’s daughter, as Director of Foreign Services and Participant at the National Defense College.
In an interview on July 3, Duale clarified that June was among the sixty-seven students who were starting their classes at the National Defense College in the academic year 2024/25.
Additionally, the Defense CS said that she was among the top three students recommended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to do the one-year, national security strategy for a couple of government bodies.
“June Ruto, the daughter of the president, a staff of the ministry of foreign affairs, is one of the sixty seven students that have started their classes today, and she’s among the three that were nominated by the ministry of foreign affairs to do the one year, national security strategy that foreign affairs, immigration, KRA,EACC, National Intelligence Service (NIS),DPP, ministry of health among another twenty nine KDF officers at the ran k of colonel joined,” he explained.

June Ruto Appointment
Duale reiterated that the President’s daughter was among a cohort of students known as cohort 27, who were starting their classes in the one-year program.
“So, we have sixty-seven students today who joined this academic year, it’s a one-year program. June Ruto is one of the students, and this is part of the fake news, and that people are peddling,” Duale said.
Duale’s remarks after a section of Kenyans on social media felt that June’s first daughter privilege led to her appointment.

Duale Weighs in on Protests
Duale also weighed in on the anti- Finance Bill protests, noting that there were other people outside Generation Z who were running the show.
Additionally, he accused some former government officials of attempting to overthrow the regime through online platforms which he termed as impossible.
“Some of them, let me tell you, some of the people who are running the space outside the Gen Z’s, our valuable, beautiful voices, there’s another critical mass of people who are running, who are in the social media space, and they are not in the country, Miguna Miguna is one of them. You can’t do a regime change through twitter space,” he stated.
Duale also responded to whether the Gen Z movement has been infiltrated stating, “Oh yes, themselves are saying, they said we are tribeless, we are leaderless. Imean, is Boniface Mwangi, Miguna, Babu Owino, Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka, Kioni and Wamalwa Gen Z? who do they represent?” Duale questioned.
