Members of a family residing in Kivumbini Estate, Nakuru County, has revealed the last moments of their kin, Brian Odhiambo, before he went missing on Saturday, January 18, 2025, following his alleged arrest by KWS officers.
Speaking to the media on Monday, January 20, his mother, Elizabeth Auma, said Odhiambo was last seen in the company of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers who were manhandling him after he was caught fishing in a restricted area within Lake Nakuru National Park.
“I saw two police officers near the fence of Lake Nakuru National Park. They arrested Brian and threw him inside their vehicle. I pleaded with them to let us talk about the matter, but my plea fell on deaf ears, and they took Brian away,” Odhiambo’s mother narrated.
Odhiambo’s family now wants the names of the KWS officers who were on duty at the time of his disappearance.
“It’s the game rangers who took Brian. They are the ones who should produce him. We are pleading with the KWS to provide the duty roster of its officers who were on duty when Brian disappeared,” requested Odhiambo’s wife, Alvy Okello.

In protest of the alleged arrest by KWS officers, residents took to the streets on the road leading to the National Park, temporarily paralyzing transport to demand for his release.

According to Nakuru East Deputy OCPD Sheilla Kegode, investigations have begun regarding Odhiambo’s disappearance.
“So far, the matter has been referred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further investigation.
We have escorted family members who are currently recording statements, and we are appealing to the public. Anyone with information that can help the police uncover what transpired is encouraged to visit the DCI offices,” stated Kegode.
Security guards at Solio ranch accused of assaulting a 50-year-old man
This incident comes just days after a 50-year-old man in Nyeri was allegedly assaulted by five security guards at Solio Ranch for trespassing.
Simon Mwangi, while addressing the media on January 14, recounted that he was kidnapped on Wednesday, January 8, after closing his boda boda work.

He explained that after stepping off his motorbike, five men approached him and informed him that he was under arrest for trespassing on Solio Ranch.
The men took his phone and the Ksh13,000 in cash he had on him. When Mwangi questioned why they took his money without charging him in court, the security guards reportedly assaulted him.
