The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued new guidelines for organizing football tournaments within the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 10, the Federation noted that it made the decision after noting that several organizations have been organizing or conducting football activities, including operating private football academies and conducting player trials, without prior notice or written appraisal from FKF.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) wishes to remind all football stakeholders of its mandate to control and supervise all football matches of all forms played and related activities throughout Kenya as the National Sports Organisation and a recognized Member of FIFA and CAF.”
The Federation has taken note of organizations that have been conducting football activities, including operating private football academies and conducting player trials, without prior notice or written appraisal from FKF,” read part of the statement.
FKF Issues Guidelines for Football Tournaments
According to FKF, such actions not only undermine the mandate of FKF but also the integrity of the game, and, in some instances, expose participants to risk and exploitation by both local and international actors.
To address the safeguarding concerns occasioned by these events, the Football Kenya Federation has established new rules for football stakeholders that will take effect immediately:
1. Anyone planning to organize football tournaments, player trials, training programs, academies, or similar events must submit a formal request to the FKF National Office at least 14 days before the event. The request must include:
a. Details about the event
b. Dates and location
c. Names of participating teams or personnel
d. Evidence of safety measures in place, including a safeguarding policy and a designated safeguarding officer.

2. If a tournament is to take place in any county, the organizer must consult and get approval from the branch representatives in that county. A copy of the request must also be given to the nearest FKF Branch Office for local coordination.
3. Only the FKF National Office can approve or deny these activities. No local branch, individual, or group can approve football activities involving FKF-affiliated players, clubs, coaches, referees, or venues without approval from the National Office.
4. Any football activity held without the Federation’s approval will be deemed unaffiliated and unauthorized. Any FKF member found participating in unauthorized activities might face disciplinary action, including suspension or removal, according to FKF Rules and Regulations.
