Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s ally has spoken after being kicked out of Senate leadership. According to Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia, the move is a political retaliation for his open support of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Methu, who served as the Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Lands, Environment, and Natural Resources, confirmed his ouster on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

However, he has insisted that his political choices contributed to the decision.
“It was an honour to serve in the house leadership as the Chairperson of the Senate’s Lands, Environment and Natural Resources Committee as well as a member of the County Public Accounts Committee.”

“The political choice I have consciously made contributes to the stripping, but I bow out with absolutely no regrets,” stated the Senator.

Methu Thanks Ruto for the Opportunity
In his statement, the Senator expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve but added that he had no regrets about the events that led to his removal.
He also thanked President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for giving him the chance to lead in the Senate for two and a half years.
Methu served in two Senate committees as the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Lands, Environment, and Natural Resources and as a member of the County Public Accounts Committee.
His leadership in these committees placed him at the centre of land reforms, environmental policies, and county financial oversight, making his removal a big blow.
However, he is still a vocal figure in Mount Kenya politics.
“It was such an honour to serve in the house leadership in that capacity. The political choice I have consciously made contributes to the stripping, but I bow out with absolutely no regrets,” he added.

Other Gachagua Allies Kicked Out of Leadership
Other friends of the former deputy president who have lost their potions in the senate include Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, who previously chaired the Roads and Transport Committee and Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who led the Education Committee.
Further, Kirinyaga Senator James Kamau Murango, who was in charge of the Agriculture Committee was also kicked out.
Additionally, Kajiado Senator Lenku Seki has lost his position as Chair of the Trade Committee, while Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has been ousted from the influential Senate Public Accounts Committee.
The changes were confirmed by Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu during a media panel discussion on Thursday, February 13. He attributed their removal to their perceived allegiance to Gachagua.
