Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Tuesday October 24, while speaking in Belgium, advised Kenyans in diaspora on how to invest in back home.
Gachagua asked Kenyans to invest back home, identifying affordable housing, government bonds and treasury bills as the safest ways to invest in Kenya.
“I invite you to save in government bonds, treasury bills again and affordable housing,” he said.
Further, on government bonds, Gachagua described the venture as the safest way to invest money in Kenya.
“They are the surest and safest way of ever investing. Because they are backed by government security and the interest rates are good and what is good about it that instead of government going to borrow outside Kenya, it borrows from Kenya,” he added.
Kenyans Don’t Save
Also, Gachagua claimed that Kenyans do not save and that was why the government was borrowing from other countries.

“Kenyans don’t save and we are borrowing from savings from other people in the world,” the DP stated.
He explained that the government raised the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to 6% of salary from the Ksh200 which he termed as too little.
Additionally, he promised them that he would work with their organizations, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the National Treasury to plan on how they would easily access the bonds online.
“We will work with the organizations, CBK and National treasury, to make it easier to be understood how it could be done and also make it very easy to do it online without many complications,” he added.
Further, Gachagua noted that affordable housing was guaranteed since the units would be affordable after the construction.
Gachagua Out of the Country
On Monday, the DP left the country for Belgium and Germany to attend the Global Gateway Forum.
Gachagua stated in a statement that Kenya continues to seek new and enhance existing partnerships for growth while also opening new opportunities for the benefit of the country.
