Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to reveals the names of the individuals responsible for the land clashes in Ang’ata Barikoi, Narok County that left at least five people dead and a trail of destruction.
Protests erupted in the volatile area on Monday, April 28, with locals asserting their ownership of the contested land.
In a statement, Gachagua mentioned that his team is gathering evidence to identify those attempting to “grab” the 6,000-acre property, which he claims belongs to the locals.
“I am gathering evidence and information on this matter, and we will name and shame those responsible for this heinous act,” Gachagua stated.
He extended condolences to the families of the five deceased and the several injured during the incident.
“My heart goes out to the families of the five innocent people who have been shot dead and several who have been injured in Ang’ata Barikoi over the 6,000-acre piece of land, which rightfully belongs to the citizens who have occupied the land for several decades,” he said.
Gachagua accused a group of leaders of having a desire for accumulating seized land and wealth.
He argued that these leaders have become so consumed by their pursuit of wealth that they have lost all regard for the value of human life.
“What kind of insatiable appetite is this by a section of leaders for primitive accumulation of grabbed land and wealth? Can our Nation sink into such depths?” Gachagua asked.
“The sanctity and preciousness of human life, which is a gift from God, seems to have been thrown to the dogs by vicious autocrats.”
Additionally, Gachagua noted that Kenyans have not forgotten the numerous young people killed during the Gen Z protests.

Gachagua Questions Who Gave the Orders
He questioned who deployed General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in Ang’ata and who authorized the shoot-to-kill orders.
“Who gave shoot-to-kill orders and archaic brutality on women, children, and innocent civilians?” he asked.
“Who deployed GSU and RDU officers to exercise unlawful, lethal, and bullish police force on innocent Kenyans in Ang’ata?”
Furthermore, Gachagua stated that the forceful displacement of people is a crime against humanity.
He added that those responsible must face justice for their crimes against humanity.
“We cannot afford, as a nation, to live in dictatorship and brutality when the world is on a trajectory to prosperity and the greatness of its citizens,” Gachagua remarked.
