In an open letter addressed to President William Ruto, the Gen Zs of Kenya responded to his recent remarks condemning ongoing protests.
On July 21, President Ruto declared “Enough is Enough!” and vowed to protect the nation from what he termed “faceless, formless and anonymous anarchists,” has sparked a wave of backlash from the country’s Gen Zs population.
The open letter, issued under the title “Statement from the People of Kenya,” accuses President Ruto of using intimidation tactics and failing to address the legitimate concerns raised by the protestors.
The youth-led demonstrations, primarily focused on demanding accountability and an end to corruption, have been met with what the letter describes as “attempts to silence and threaten us.”
Gen Zs Response to Ruto
“Enough is enough!” the letter begins. “We, the people of Kenya, have given our leaders ample opportunity to address our concerns, but this cannot continue. We must come together to protect our nation and ensure Kenya remains a true democracy,” part of the letter read.
The letter criticizes President Ruto for his portrayal of the protestors as “looters and goons,” arguing that such rhetoric is an effort to delegitimize the movement and distract from the real issues.

Additionally, it accuses the President of seeking approval from an uninformed village audience, while ignoring the widespread issues of unemployment and poverty that affect all Kenyans.
“This tactic will not deceive us, the Kenyan people, who have declared enough is enough to the politics of deceit and conmanship, “the letter stated.
Nationwide Protests to Continue
The protestors also express their dissatisfaction with the recent appointments to Ruto’s cabinet, calling it “the most incompetent cabinet in the history of Kenya.”
They further highlighted the reappointment of individuals who have previously failed the nation as a clear indication that their voices and concerns have been ignored.
However, they have announced plans for continued protesting. “We, the people of Kenya, will take to the streets on Tuesday, the 23rd, without fail,” the letter declares.
“We will occupy all Towns, Cities, Major Roads and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport every day until change comes.”

The demands for “accountability, transparency, and competent governance” are at the forefront of the movement.
“Together, we will fight for a better Kenya,” the letter concluded.
Ruto on Protests
President William Ruto challenged alleged sponsors of anti-government protests to come clean, reveal their identities and table their alternative development plans for the country.
Speaking during a church service in Bomet on Sunday, July 21, Ruto said those sponsoring the Gen Zs-led protests should provide their alternative plans instead of constantly attacking the government.
The Head of State stated that the sponsors should not remain anonymous adding that they should show up with strategies to steer the country forward.
“I want to challenge those who are sponsoring orchestrating and funding this violence and give us their alternative views on how to take Kenya forward. They must not remain, anonymous, formless or faceless. They must step forward and tell us beyond anarchy and destruction what are their alternative plans for Kenya,” Ruto said.
“I challenge them, the shadowed and faceless people, to step forward and tell use if they have any alternative ideas for taking Kenya forward,” he added.
