The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has responded to the chaos that ensued before and after the match between Gor Mahia FC and Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium.
In a statement, the FKF condemned the confrontation between the fans of Gor Mahia and Shabana FC.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is deeply concerned by the unfortunate scenes of violence that occurred during today’s FKF Premier League match between Shabana FC and Gor Mahia FC at Gusii Stadium.
FKF strongly condemns all forms of violence in our stadiums. Football must remain a sport that brings people together – not one that puts lives at risk.
The safety and well-being of fans, players, and officials remains a top priority for the Federation,” read part of the statement.
FKF Confirms More Than 70 Injured after Gusii Stadium Chaos
FKF confirmed reports from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, RAM Hospital, Hema Hospital, and Christamarianne Hospital, as well as from the police, indicating that a total of 72 individuals were treated for injuries and no fatalities had been reported by the evening of Sunday, May 5.
At the same time, the Federation stated that it is working closely with the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances that led to the unrest and that once the investigations are concluded, decisive disciplinary measures will be taken.

The FKF President, Hussein Mohammed vowed that the federation would take disciplinary action once investigations are concluded.
“It’s time for more action and less talk. What happened today at Gusii Stadium is unacceptable. Violence has no place in our game. FKF will act decisively.
We owe it to our fans, players, and the future of Kenyan football,” the FKF boss reiterated.
The Federation also urged the public and the media to refrain from circulating unverified reports, particularly claims of fatalities.
“FKF will continue to monitor the situation and will provide timely updates to the public should any new developments arise. Let us all work together to protect the image, integrity, and safety of Kenyan football,” the Federation stated.
Chaos Ensues at Gusii Stadium
The FKF statement came after several football fans were injured at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County following a scuffle before and after the FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) match between Shabana FC and Gor Mahia.
Preliminary reports indicate that the scuffle between rival supporters ensued on Sunday morning ahead of the high-stakes match scheduled for 2 p.m.

Earlier, the venue had been a point of contention in the build-up to the match, with some fans and observers expressing concern over its small capacity given the expected turnout.
Gor Mahia supporters had proposed moving the fixture to a larger stadium capable of accommodating high-risk matches, but the idea was strongly opposed by Shabana fans, some of whom even threatened to boycott the game if it was not held at their home ground.
