A student in Bungoma County named Wanyonyi dropped out of school following termination of his scholarship by the County government.
In a statement, a well-wisher named Ndungu Nyoro who has chipped in to help Wanyonyi narrated his experience.
“When father and son visited our office earlier today, I sought to understand how the young man managed to join Bungoma High School but dropped out in Form 3 as a result of accumulated school fees balance. What he told me left me quite disappointed,” Nyoro narrated.
According to Nyoro, Wanyonyi was awarded a Bungoma County government scholarship after his father had exhausted all alternatives to raise money for his fees.
Wanyonyi quits school after scholarship halted
He joined Bungoma High School quite late, at the end of February, and had to catch up with the rest of the students after missing nearly two months.
All seemed well for Wanyonyi in form one and form two, but things took a different turn after the 2022 general elections.

The new county leadership led by the governor Ken Lusaka cancelled all the scholarships which were spearheaded by his predecessor Wycliffe Wangamati upon resuming office.
Wanyonyi became among the students who were no longer going to benefit from the program.
Scholarship halted due to political differences
“All was well in form one and form two. However, in form three there was a change in county leadership after the general elections. The new county government terminated the scholarships. Wanyonyi was back to school fees problems. Eventually he dropped out after a fee balance of Kes 59000,” Nyoro explained.
Nyoro attributed Wanyonyi’s problems to the political leadership of the county government and suggested that such programs should be managed by the national government to avoid political differences between politicians, which could otherwise result in students missing out due to such conflicts.

“Now I am sad. Besides him who else dropped out of school in his county as a result of this irrational county leadership decision? Could be there are tens of others like Wanyonyi. Are beneficiaries at the mercies of political leaders?” Nyoro posed.
“I wish the government could run these programs away from political leaders. Few would suffer.”
