The State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services under the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, issued a public notice on Tuesday, October 15, regarding the loss of birth certificates.
In the notice, issued by the Acting Secretary of Civil Registration Services, Paul Mwangemi, the State Department revealed details about the lost certificates, which went missing from the Mutomo Registration Office.
“Civil Registration Services wishes to inform the general public of the loss of birth certificates that occurred at the Mutomo Registration Office,” the State Department under the Ministry of Interior said.
According to the State Department, the following are the serial numbers of the lost Birth Certificates:

In the notice, the State Department announced that those certificates have since been rendered invalid.
“Consequently, the Department hereby cautions the general public that the said Virth Certificates have been Cancelled thereby rendering them invalid,” read the notice.

Further, the Department directed any individual who may have been issued with any certificate bearing any of the serial numbers mentioned to return it/ them to the Secretary, Civil Registration Services at Hass Plaza, Lower Hill.
How to apply for lost birth certificate in Kenya
Application for replacement of a birth certificate is a six-step process as explained below:
- Log into the eCitizen portal: If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one.
- Select the Civil Registration Department: Once logged in, navigate to the Civil Registration Department.
- Apply for Replacement: Choose the option to apply for a birth certificate replacement.
- Fill in the Required Details: Complete the application form with the necessary information and upload any required documents.
- Pay the Required Fee: Make the payment as instructed on the portal.
- Notification: You will be notified once your birth certificate is ready for collection.

Documents required for the above process include a copy of birth notification, a copy of birth certificate, original national Identity Card, and copies of ID card or Passport of the parents.
In case one of the parents is dead, you’ll be required to present the death certificate.
Government clears air on claims of lost title deeds
The Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development on Sunday, September 29 responded to claims that the government lost 366 title deeds following a gazette notice issued by the Government Printer on September 26, 2024.
In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the documents stolen at the Government Printer are the papers that are used for printing Title Deeds and not the title deeds.
The Ministry said it relies on the government printer for the provision of the security documents used for printing Title Deeds.
