Govt Announces Pay Rise for Kenyan Workers

Cabinet Secretary for Labour Dr Alfred Mutua has announced the implementation of a minimum wage pay rise for Kenyan workers.

In a statement on Saturday, October 12 Mutua stated the government has implemented a six percent increase in the minimum wage salary effective November 1, 2024.

The CS said the increase will mark a significant step in the Country’s journey towards improving the livelihoods of Kenyan workers.

“Under the leadership of President Dr. William Ruto, we have implemented a 6% increase in the minimum wage across various sectors, effective from November 1st, 2024.

“The signing of the gazette notice, which was witnessed by President Ruto at State House Nairobi, is a testament to our commitment to ensuring fair compensation for all Kenyan workers.”

CS Alfred Mutua Announces Pay Rise of Workers

Mutua stated that as the CS for Labour, it is his responsibility to implement this increase across different industries, as outlined in the recently amended wage orders.

“We have updated the Regulation of Wages for both the General and Agricultural sectors, which will directly benefit workers across the nation,” he added.

The CS said that this adjustment ensures that the wages reflect the current economic environment and provide a better standard of living.

Salary Pay Rise in Different Sectors

The minimum salary payment for house managers & cooks is now set at Ksh 9,129 per month while those of unskilled workers is set at Kes 7,997 per month.

Minimum Monthly Wages Per Counties

General laborer including cleaner, sweeper. gardener, children’s, house servant, day watchman in the Cities (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret) will receive a salary of Ksh 16113. 75.

Those in former municipalities and town councils of Mavoko, Ruiru and Limuru will be paid a monthly salary of Ksh 14866,92 while those in other areas will get Ksh 8596.494.
