The Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) has released a comprehensive list of institutions approved and recognized to offer Nutrition and Dietetics courses.
The list includes prominent universities and middle-level colleges that have met the necessary standards set by KNDI.
The nutrition and dietetics body also noted that any institution found offering the course without approval shall be violating section 34 of Cap 253B.
“KNDI wishes to notify parents, students and the general public that the institutions listed below are complaint pursuant to section 6[d] of Cap 253B to train in nutrition and dietetics,” reads part of the notice.
Universities Licensed to Offer Nutrition & Dietetics
Approved and recognized universities for Nutrition and Dietetics courses include Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Egerton University, Garissa University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya Methodist University, and Kenyatta University.
Other universities approved include Kabara, Maseno, Mt Kenya university, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Pwani University, Southeastern Kenya University, Technical University of Kenya, Technical University of Mombasa, University of Nairobi and University of Eastern Africa-Baraton.
Technical Training Institutes on the List
Licensed Technical Training Institutes (TTI) allowed to offer Nutrition and Dietetics course include Bumbe TTI, Bureti TTI, Eldoret TTI, Kisiwa TTI, Mawego TTI, Ol’ Lessos TTI, Rift Valley TTI and Thika TTI.
Among the National Polytechnic mandated to offer the course include, Eldoret National Polytechnic, Kabete National Polytechnic, Kisumu National Polytechnic, Kisii National Polytechnic, Meru National Polytechnic and Sigalagala.
Frontier Institute of Professional and Management Studies in Wajir, Garissa and Mandera have also been licensed to offer the course.

Nutrition and Dietetics in Medical Colleges
On the other hand, the government body approved several medical colleges to offer the courses and training including Commonwealth College of Medical and Related Studies, Equip Africa College of Medical and Health Science, Ganana Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, and Imperial College of Medical and Health Sciences.
Others are Kenya School of Medical Sciences and Technology, NEP College of Health Sciences, North Coast Medical Training College, Outspan Medical College, Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences, Tricent School of Medical Sciences and Technology and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Similarly, middle-level colleges such as the African Institute of Research & Development Studies (AIRADS), Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology, Kenya Institute of Professional Studies, Nairobi Women’s Hospital College, NURIA College, P.C.E.A Tumutumu Hospital College, Ramogi Institute of Advanced College, Siaya Institute of Technology, have also been listed.

KNDI on Licenses
However, KNDI in their announcement notified all non-compliant institutions to renew their license and update their records within a period of 14 days.
It further warned that “Failure to comply will result in the removal of names from the register, as stipulated in Section 24(4) of Nutritionists and Dieticians Act, No.18 of 2007.”
Furthermore, the body released the timetable for pre-license examinations in 2024.
For recent graduates with a BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics, the government body also announced application deadlines for professional upgrade examinations.
“Prospective candidates are urged to review the examination schedules on the institute’s official website and make the necessary applications and payments,
“The application deadline for pre-license oral examinations is on February 5, 2024, and for professional upgrade exams is February 28, 2024,” KNDI announced.
