The national government has allocated Ksh75 million to Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki’s home counties. Kindiki participated in the Bodaboda empowerment forum held in Runyenjes town, Embu County, on February 1, 2025. The event was hosted by the Embu County Government, led by Governor Cecily Mbarire, alongside the Uwezo Fund team, led by Principal Secretary (PS) for MSMEs Susan Mang’eni, Director Flora Kiprop, and Chief Executive Officer Peter Lengapiani.
During the event, Uwezo Fund unveiled Kshs75M available for lending to groups in Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties.
The money has been distributed as follows: Meru Ksh43,683,105, Embu Ksh20,768,919 Tharaka Nithi Ksh11,255,357.
“We encourage Boda Boda riders to join Saccos to access affordable credit and embrace the saving culture,” Kindiki said.
Kindiki’s Statement After Uwezo Fund Event
Over 10,000 boda boda riders attended the event, which marked the first Embu County Boda Boda Summit and the launch of the Strategic Plan 2024-2027.
After the event, Kindiki urged all Kenyans to register themselves and their dependents with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
He emphasized that this would guarantee all citizens access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Kindiki stated that enrollment had risen to 18.5 million Kenyans, up from 9 million under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
To address administrative challenges in rolling out the Taifa Care Programme, he added that the Government would review the Means Testing Tool to ensure it accommodates all Kenyans, including boda boda riders.
Jamhuri High School Visit
Kindiki also joined the Jamhuri High School community in celebrating the school’s 120th anniversary.
He revealed that the school is launching a Ksh120 million Endowment Fund, aimed at infrastructure development, student bursaries, and the establishment of a Digital Hub, among other projects, within 120 days.
“We must promote intergenerational excellence to enhance the ideals that form the software of our country. There are enough older people that our young generation can emulate,” Kindiki said.
