The government will offer loans of up to Ksh300,000 to support youth with pre-travel costs for jobs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua made the announcement after a meeting with Youth Fund CEO Josiah Moriasi and his team, alongside Labour Principal Secretary (PS) Shadrack Mwadime.
In a statement, Mutua said the meeting was to explore a partnership aimed at supporting Kenyan youth who have secured employment abroad through an initiative dubbed Kazi Majuu.
The Initiative will offer loans to youth who have received employment opportunities at the UAE but have financial problems.
“The Youth Fund will provide migration loans of up to Ksh300,000 to eligible youth who have secured jobs in the UAE and other countries but face financial challenges in meeting pre-travel costs such as visa fees, airfare, and other necessary expenses,” Mutua said.
Mutua said the government has successfully secured thousands of job opportunities abroad, but many qualified candidates struggle to take up the positions due to financial constraints.
He explained that the partnership will help bridge that gap, ensuring that deserving young Kenyans do not miss out on life-changing opportunities due to lack of funds.
Youth Fund Ready to Offer Loans
CEO Moriasi reaffirmed the Youth Fund’s commitment to supporting labour mobility by removing financial barriers that hinder youth from accessing jobs overseas.
He noted that in this financial year alone, the Fund has disbursed Ksh94 million, benefiting 422 youth.
“This initiative aligns with our broader goal of empowering young people by providing them with the means to access decent and well-paying jobs globally, ultimately improving livelihoods and contributing to Kenya’s economic growth,” Moriasi said.

Mutua Suspends National Job Recruitment Programme
On February 7, Mutua informed the public that the National Job Recruitment Programme was suspended on November 27, 2024, and remains on hold until further notice.
He stated that some individuals were still showing up at recruitment stations despite the official announcement on all Labour Ministry communication channels and his social media platforms.
Mutua clarified that the only ongoing recruitment exercise is the Kisumu recruitment drive which happened on 7th and 8th of February 2025.

The exercise was conducted on the sidelines of the Nyanza Investment Conference and was targeting job seekers from Nyanza counties.
“There are currently no other active recruitment activities under the Ministry’s mandate,” Mutua said.
He advised Kenyans to disregard the earlier recruitment schedule, which was set to run until February 20, 2025, and to rely solely on official communication from the Ministry for any future updates.
“Further details on the next steps will be communicated in due course. We appreciate your patience and cooperation,” he said.
