The High Court has summoned the Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja over missing Wajir MCA Yussuf Ahmed.
Justice Alexander Muteti ordered Kanja to present missing Wajir MCA, Yussuf Ahmed, in court or to appear before Justice Muteti on Friday September 27 to explain the lawmaker’s whereabouts if he fails to present the lawmaker.
“Having heard Danstan Omari, counsel for the family of the abducted MCA (Yussuf Hussein Ahmed) I hereby order the IG to produce him in open court on Friday (September 27) 10am,” Muteti directed.
Justice Muteti emphasized that the case filed by the family of the abductee holds significant public interest, noting that “15 days have passed, and his whereabouts remain unknown.”
He further stated that the matter is emotionally charged and is causing considerable anxiety for the family.
Douglas Kanja Ordered to Present Missing MCA
At the same time, Justice Muteti, ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to obtain instructions from the Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and return to court with proper instructions.
“If the subject (missing MCA) is in the custody of the 1st and 2nd respondents, he be produced before this court tomorrow at 10 am or an explanation is given why he cannot be produced if in custody,” Justice Muteti said.

The court order was issued just days after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) filed a petition, seeking the court’s intervention to compel the Inspector General of Police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to provide information on the missing politician.
In its petition, the LSK also demanded the politician’s release and requested that both the police chief and the politician appear before the court.
The petitioners, in their suit, criticized the National Police Service (NPS) for failing to provide information about the disappearance of the outspoken politician.
MCA Yussuf Ahmed Missing
Ahmed, the Della Ward MCA and Wajir County Assembly Minority Leader was reportedly abducted by armed people in Nairobi on September 13 at night on Enterprise Road while heading to his home in Pangani from South C.
During the attack, the abductors also took the taxi driver’s phone to prevent any communication. However, in the chaos, the phone accidentally fell inside the taxi and was later recovered by the driver.
His family and colleagues from the Wajir County Assembly have filed a court application demanding that he be produced, dead or alive.
Represented by lawyer Danstan Omari, the family expressed a reasonable fear that he may have been abducted by officers associated with the National Police Service.
The Inspector General of Police is listed as the first respondent, while the DCI is the second respondent.

MCAs Condemn Abduction
Earlier, the County Assemblies Forum (CAF), the umbrella body of ward representatives, called for an immediate investigation into the disappearance of their colleague from Wajir County.
