A 30-year-old Kenyan graduate Mary Awuonda reportedly died one week after travelling to Qatar for a job.
According to her family, she received a work invitation from a close friend who was already at the Gulf Country.
Mary, a Hotel Management graduate, was excited about the opportunity, as she had been looking for work for a while. At the same time, her mother Grace Awuonda revealed that she was going to receive a hefty salary.
Her job, according to the family, was to support a family in Qatar as a domestic worker.
“The job she got was something she had been looking for. She asked around and was informed that there was a family that was looking for a house help.
“She liked that she was going to receive a good salary that she could use to help her family,” her mother said.

How did the Kenyan Graduate Die?
The mother of Mary Awuonda has revealed that Mary did not even receive her fist salary because one week after landing in Qatar, they received news of her demise.
However, so many of their questions still go unanswered, leaving them in a limbo.
Mary’s family received postmortem results from Qatar indicating that she died of electrocution.
Moreover, they have said that the results were not satisfactory because they were not informed of what exactly transpired.
Also, they have indicated that because they do not have the resources for another postmortem, they are unable to follow up on the results.
At the same time, when Mary’s grandmother heard the news of her passing, she suffered a heart attack and died.
The family now has two funerals to organize, despite being unable to come to terms with the death of the young graduate with big dreams.

Another Family Loses kin in Qatar
Earlier in February 2024, a family in Kiminini Constituency, Trans Zoia County sought the help of the government to help bring back the body of their kin who had died in Qatar.
The family revealed that the kin, Andrew, made a call home nine hours before he passed away.
His wife Grace Nafula said that they spoke, and he told her that he had just had his dinner and was off work the next day.
Despite their efforts to bring the body back for burial, differences between the Kenyan embassy and Andrew’s employer over his last pay has halted the process.
