Jubilee party’s candidate Polycarp Igathe who is eying the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat has stated that he is not a political project while facing off his key competitor, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition during the gubernatorial debate.
Speaking on Monday, July 11, Igathe who is angling for the county’s top seat distanced himself from claims that he is a project of the current government and Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja coalition in his quest to succeed Governor Anne Kananu.
“My decision to get into the Nairobi gubernatorial elections was made in March 2017. I have been a member of the Jubilee party since that date,” Igathe said while responding to KTN NEWS anchor Zubeda Koome.
Igathe further claimed that he was elected by 896,000 voters when he assumed office with the then Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko.
“I have been a member of the Jubilee party since March 2017. I made the decision to seek elective office on my own,” Igathe added.
The former Nairobi County Deputy Governor further stated that he won his nomination to vie for the county’s top seat in the August 9th General Elections on a Jubilee party ticket.
“I fought for this ticket and I won it after politically canvassing for it within the party. And in the party (Jubilee) the people who were running against me did not have degrees,” Igathe said.
In his statement, Igathe further stated that he is well prepared to serve the residents of Nairobi as their fourth governor even after he resigned from office during the tenure of Mike Sonko with whom he was elected into office,
“I am ready and well prepared to serve Kenyans in Nairobi County for the next five years. When I was the Deputy Governor, I did not get the chance to do my job,” Igathe claimed.
