Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled a detailed plan to not only challenge President William Ruto’s administration but also address the deepening economic struggles.
His plan outlines bold reforms that aim to return control to the people, beginning with restoring the dignity of the Kenyan workers and ensuring that their income is not undermined by unnecessary deductions.
Speaking during a church service in Murang’a on Sunday, February 22, Gachagua said that he was committed to confronting the leadership failures he believes are causing trouble in the current government.
Beyond economic policy, Gachagua’s remarks also highlight his commitment to confronting the leadership failures he believes are endemic in the current government.
Moreover, his criticisms extend to the handling of public funds, the lack of transparency, and the growing insecurity that has plagued the country.

Step 1: Forming a New Political Party
The first step is to form a political party capable of competing with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Gachagua revealed that he had been receiving reports from across the country with information about what Kenyans want. He also said that he plans to discuss these insights with the people before determining the next step.
Further, he said that the information he has been gathering will be used to form a new political party aimed at challenging the current political leadership in the country.
Therefore, the former DP noted that he will address the nation on February 9, 2025.
Gachagua believes that the country’s leadership has been steered off course, and a new political force is needed to provide a genuine alternative
Step 2: Restoring the Pay Slip and Empowering Employees
The second step of Gachagua’s plan is restoring the financial power of ordinary Kenyan workers.
He identified the erosion of the pay slip as a major problem, saying that it played a big part in economically suppressing Kenyans.
Therefore, he said that he had plans in place to restore the dignity of both public servants and private employees.
“We have a big problem. The economy is not thriving because the payslip was raided. All employees with payslips have no purchasing power. And in the new administration that we are working on, the first thing we will do is to rescue the payslip,” he said.

Step 3: Removing Unwanted Deductions
Gachagua also criticized government deductions such as the affordable housing levy, which he believes burdens Kenyan workers.
He argued that it is not the role of the government to build houses for people.
Although he was initially supportive of the policy, Gachagua expressed disappointment upon discovering that it was not aimed at helping Kenyans, but rather became a profit-driven business venture.
“We will remove things like the affordable housing levy so that Kenyans can use their own money to build homes if they choose to,” he added.
Step 4: Exposing Corruption and Mismanagement of Public Funds
Another critical element of Gachagua’s plan is to challenge the current government’s handling of public funds.
The former DP accused the administration of diverting money meant for hospitals and women’s health programs into corrupt activities.
He indicated that the president would not take responsibility for the corruption in the country, asking residents of Murang’a to accept the bribes but use wisdom when choosing leaders.
“You can take the money, but I am cautioning you on how to use it. Make sure you spend it immediately because that money was gotten from the blood of Gen Zs,” he added.
Step 5: Addressing Abductions and the State of Insecurity
Gachagua also condemned the government’s involvement in abductions, especially targeting children.
He drew a comparison to the colonial era, stating that Ruto’s era was worse.
“We continue to condemn abductions. Even the colonial government, brutal as it was never targeted our children,” said Gachagua.
Additionally, he called out the hypocrisy of President Ruto’s peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), saying that, under his watch, the government was engaging in the abductions and killings of Kenyan children.
“How are you concerned about the insecurity in DRC, yet under your watch, the government is killing children?” Gachagua asked, questioning the government’s commitment to peace at home and abroad.
