Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o has responded to an affidavit filed against him which claimed that he conned a former client of Ksh20,000 after withdrawing from a Ksh40,000 deal.
Jalang’o in a statement on April 19, 2024, cleared the air over the affidavit which accused him of obtaining money by false pretences after withdrawing from the said agreement.
In the affidavit, the client claimed that the first-time legislator was contracted for a video interview on his “Bonga na Jalas” YouTube show by the client which involved the payment of Ksh40,000.
The client further claimed that the Lang’ata MP failed to honor the agreement when he failed to appear and instead delegated the task to a subordinate.
Jalang’o clears air
However, Jalang’o has refuted the claims noting that the client had been informed of his absence before the said interview.
“A guy comes for interview, he is told I don’t do interviews anymore and that I am busy, agrees to be hosted by the host, later comes and says the interview did not do well,” noted Jalang’o.

According to the legislator, the client asked for 50% of their money after the interview failed to go according to plan, claiming that he had been conned.
“He should have refused to be hosted!” added Jalang’o.
Daniel Musau, in the affidavit, noted that the sale agreement between him and the legislator was made on 25th September 2022.
He added that it involved a Ksh40,000 payment where Jalang’o was to run his advertisements for 4 days.
Agreement
According to the affidavit, the agreement also included a live prelaunch interview of Musau’s book which was to be done and aired on Jalang’o’s YouTube channel and his Instagram and Facebook pages.
“That Phelix Odiwour alias Jalang’o received the payment but did not complete the mission as agreed,” the affidavit added.

However, he added that following the payment, on the day of the interview, the former media personality failed to appear, citing unavoidable circumstances hence the breach.
Musau went on to indicate that the legislator instead delegated the task to a subordinate.
As a result, Musau said that the interview did not meet expectations and fell short of its intended impact.
Following the result, he added that he reached out to the MP demanding a refund of the agreed-upon payment.
According to him, the legislator agreed to refund the money and even set up a meeting where they agreed to reimburse only half of the original payment, amounting to Ksh20,000.
The petitioner however said that the MP did not honor the agreement despite attempts to reclaim the outstanding balance since December 2022.
Jalang’o saw his show gain popularity after launching it by positing interviews and entertainment shows featuring influential people and celebrities which saw the channel garner over 630,000 subscribers.
However, his presence as an interviewer on the show came to a halt in the run up to the 2022 General election where he successfully vied for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.
