Jane Mugo is one of the top celebrity private detectives in Kenya and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trimo Security firm.

In a documentary with BBC, Mugo revealed that she is wanted by criminals and the people she has targeted in her assignments.

The Private Investigator (PI) is celebrated for solving numerous crimes including murders and kidnappings.

“I am the best in the world, in Africa and in Kenya. Nobody can beat me up,” said Mugo.

BBC documented that her work has helped the court system sentence more than 70 criminals to prison.

The spy queen was born and raised in Gichugu, Kirinyanga where she schooled at Kiaumbui Primary School.

She joined Karoti Girls Secondary School where she served as the student’s leader (head girl) due to her leadership skills.

Mugo schooled with NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua who later requested Cradle Kenya to absorb her as an undercover agent.

She started working as private undercover in 2002 part time while pursuing a diploma in Criminology.

While in high school, Mugo was the chairlady of the Catholic Action.

After her secondary school, she joined the covenant as a nun, but she quit after only six months.

In an interview with a local radio station, the investigator left the covenant to help fight crime in her community.

She credited former Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti for sharpening her investigative skills and developing her urge to fight crime.

Kinoti sent her to Kabete Police station to do some undercover job where she developed the passion to become either a police officer or undercover investigator.

In 2008, she quit her job and started her own private investigative company, Trimo Security.

Jane Mugo Criminal Accusations

Local media house reported that Mugo was accused of detaining a man for hours and forcing him to payKsh.440,000 and impersonating a public service employee.

She was also accused of threatening to kill a businessman in 2019 accusing him of spying for a relative of the director in a company where she was the PI.

Mugo denied the attempted murder charges but was released on a cash bail of Ksh.300,000 or Ksh.500,000 bond.

She claimed that her life was in danger and sought government protection, but the court ordered that she be reprimanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.

The charges were later dropped, and she continued working on new cases.

In November 2021, Mugo was admitted to hospital after suffering head injuries in a carjacking incident in Uasin Gishu county.

The detective said her car was blocked by gunmen driving in Subaru vehicles.

She said the attack was linked to a murder case she was investigating.

Mugo Resigns

Mugo resigned in November 2022 after a long successful career as an investigator.

While speaking to the media, she said her reign had come to an end and her exit paved the way for the youth who would succeed her.

“I want to state that I have resigned because I am now old enough. I have mentored young boys and girls who will do the investigations,” she said.

She added that she will concentrate on the community-based CBO Trimo Humanitarian Watch.

Political Ambitions

Mugo had announced plans to contest for the Kirinyanga Women Representative seat in the 2022 elections.

Herr dream to join politics suffered a blow after she lost the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to vie for Jane Njeri who went on clinch the seat in the August elections.
