More than ten families in Mumias East, Kakamega County are counting losses after suspected arsonists set ablaze their homes and made away with their livestock.
According to the affected families who are drawn from Mulufu and Butunyi villages in Mumias East, there has been an increase in cases of cattle theft.
Moreover, the villagers suspect that the arsonists set their houses ablaze to act as a destruction while they steal the animals.
“I received a distress call late in the night only to wake up to clouds of smoke billowing from one of the houses in my compound,” a resident in Mulufu village told reported.
In Butunyi, the locals gave an account of the traumatic experience that saw several houses torched.
“My son informed me that some of our cows were missing. We trailed them to the main highway, where they were due for transportation,” one of the victims said.
Nonetheless, the residents now blame the security officials in the area, for the gruesome occurrences. They have also asked the government to intervene.
