Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth league, Kasmuel McOure has hit back at former Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga following his recent comments on governance if he were given a chance to be president.

David Maraga on Thursday March 6 said he would stamp out corruption and ensure rule of law is obeyed if he was given a chance to rule Kenya.

“If I was given the opportunity to govern this country, I would get everyone to obey the law. Everything would fall in place. The problem we have is corruption,” Maraga said.

While appearing in an interview on Citizen TV on Friday, March 7, Kasmuel criticized former CJ Maraga for allegedly paying for lip service, claiming that they are age mates with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“I cannot trust this man because, if anything, he’s just age mates with my party leader. So, there’s no way you can call Raila Odinga old and then want to tell me that David Maraga is an honest option,” he said.

“So, a lot of these things have come up, and now he is getting into the political waters where he will come to realize that it is not enough to pay lip service.”

Kasmuel Details Why Former CJ Maraga is Unfit to be President

According to Kasmuel, he cannot trust Maraga with the presidency because the former CJ was given the chance to prove himself, and he did not take it.

“He annulled an election, and all he did is accepted a sham election afterwards, he presided over the judiciary when the legislative arm of government was unconstitutionally constituted. And all that could happen is that he wrote an advisory, and he did not push it to the end,” he stated.

“Therefore, it means that whoever the person is who will occupy the office is not the problem. Because he was the president of the judiciary. He did not occupy a small position in government.”

Additionally, he opined that Emeritus CJ Maraga was the president of the Apex Court and that the courts have shown Kenyans, especially in the past two years, that they have the power to change the country.

“They have the power to partner with the people within their landmark rulings and in the, the explanation of those rulings. The interpretation of the law can be made robust,” he added.

“These things that he’s saying yesterday are the things that my party leader and yound people have been saying time without number.”

Type of Leader Kenya Needs

The vocal youth emphasized that Kenya needs a person who will drive a vehicle that will lead the country to systemic change, and the person at the helm will not do it alone as a loner personality.

“He will have to do it with the partnership of the business community, the religious community, the youth, the women, and persons who are differently abled.

“The head of that vehicle is not as important as the vehicle itself. The vehicle is more important because it is what will bring about the systemic change.”

When asked if he would run for president, Maraga refused to give a direct answer.

“I want to ask you: which type of leader would you want to have? The state of the country is bad…It’s open for everybody to see that the resources are being plundered, right left and center.

“The leadership that is required is one that is accountable to the people. The leadership we need is one who understands that when you are in a position of leadership, you are just a trustee of the people.”
