As Kenyans continue to call for accountability following excesses against protestors, activist Kasmuel McOure has faulted the move by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki to justify actions by the police.
In a media interview on Friday, September 27, Kasmuel called out Kindiki for appearing to ignore the injustices perpetuated against peaceful protestors.
“We have footage of police shooting peaceful protestors. It means we have an inept police force. What the cabinet secretary is saying is he is police force, now we have a face of police. Even the police were faceless at the time of protests. Nobody wanted to take accountability for police force,” he stated.
Kasmuel has called for the government to punish those found culpable of the mistreatment of Kenyans protesting for their rights, adding that the Gen-Z protests were not meant to overthrow the government.
“The government thinks everything revolves around them. They think one particular person mobilized the youth to protest. We did not want to overthrow the government, we wanted to change the system,” he explained.
Kasmuel stated that the William Ruto administration must go home, blaming it for injustices against peaceful protestors, adding that the young people will take power in 2027.
“I totally believe that we will take power in 2027. That we will find means the same way we found means and the finance bill was repealed, we got the cabinet reshuffled. although they fumbled back there. We will take power,” he explained.
The activist also urged Kenyans to be at the forefront of championing for the change they want instead of pushing hash tags on social media.
What Next for the Gen Z Movement?
When asked the next steps on the Gen Z movement, he explained that there is a long way to go, and it starts with mobilizing people on the ground.
“We cannot effect change with hash tags. People are listening to us. Therefore, we have to go to the people, get them to listen, and present our case the same way politicians do,” he reiterated.
Kasmuel added that proper strategy is needed is Gen Z want to lead in government, explaining that the generation has to be smart to get things done.
“If the government can infiltrate our organization, we can do the same to them. We can infiltrate the political parties present today and push our agenda,” he stated.
