The Kenya Defence Forces – KDF through the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has announced the sale of casted vehicles, equipment and general stores by public auction.
In a notice on Friday, December 15, MOD said the auction will be conducted at Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Mtongwe for Mombasa Region, 0CC 43 for Nanyuki Region, 23 0CC Lanet for Nakuru Region and DEFOD Kahawa for Nairobi region.
“The vehicles/equipment and general stores can be viewed from 03 January 2024 during working days only (Monday to Friday) except on public holidays,” read the statement.
In Nairobi region the products can be viewed at DEFOD-Kahawa, 12 Engrs -Thika, DEMH, MAB, Emb GAR and DHQ CAU.
Nakuru bidders should visit 23 OCC – Lanet or Nanyuki region (43 OCC) while in Coastal Region they can viewed at KNB Mtongwe and Mariakani GAR.
Notably, MOD said only bidders with a catalogue will be allowed to view the goods from from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
“Catalogues giving full details of items to be sold may be obtained on viewing days upon payment of a non – refundable fee of KSh.1,000.00 per set,” said MOD.
Besides, the catalogues can be obtained at KNB Mtongwe, DEFOD, Kahawa, 43 OCC Nanyuki and Ulinzi house main gate along Lenana road.
Viewing Dates
Interested bidders should visit the various viewership locations between 3rd and 24th January 2024 to access the items.
“Interested bidders will be required to pay a refundable bid number deposit of KSh.50,000.00 and KSh.30,000.00 for vehicles/equipment and stores respectively in cash payable to MOD before the last day of viewing,” stated the statement.
Furthermore, each bid number will only be allowed to bid for one lot only.
Original catalogue and receipts for both the catalogue and bid number deposits will be presented at the entrance for one to be allowed to participate in the auction.

Auction Dates
The first auction will be held in Mombasa on January 23, followed by the one in Nanyuki on 30th the same month.
Subsequently, the auction in Nakuru and Nairobi will be done on 6th and 13th February respectively.
“All successful bidders will be required to pay a deposit of 25%6 of the bid at the fall of the hammer and the remaining balance within fourteen (14) days after the auction, failure to which the award will be cancelled, and the deposit forfeited,” read the statement in parts.
However, unsuccessful bidders will be refunded the bid number deposits on presentation of the respective original receipts.
Also, the sale is subject to a reserve price and based on ‘as -is – where-is’.

Successful Bidders
Successful bidders tender bid deposit will be credited to their bid price and thereafter they will be required to top up the difference thereof.
Furthermore, successful bidders will be required to collect their item(s) within thirty days after making full payment.
After one month, bidders will pay storage charges at a rate of 19% of bid offer per day up to a maximum of three months.
“Items not collected within the three months will be forfeited together with the monies paid against them,” said MOD.
Notably, successful bidders will be responsible for payment of duty, VAT and other related charges, where applicable, as established under Government regulations.
Instructions to Vehicles Bidders
MOD explained that it reserves the right to reject any bid below the reserve price and does not bind itself to give the reasons for the rejection.
“Bidders who will purchase motor vehicles(s) will be required to ensure that the vehicles are painted with non-military color patterns (where applicable) before being put on the road,” added the Ministry.
The ministry emphasized that no ex-military vehicle should be put on the road with ex-military number plates contrary to which the vehicle will be impounded immediately.
Finally, all successful bidders must get clearance from KRA before collecting the items from the sale yards.
