The Kenya Defense Force has taken over the stalled construction of the Kakamega Level Six Hospital as President William Ruto intensifies development efforts in Raila Odinga’s Western Kenya stronghold.
Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki announced the development on July 18, during a women empowerment programme at Mukumu grounds in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County.
He stated that the hospital, whose completion had been delayed for years, will now be finalized before the end of 2025 under KDF supervision.

“The Kenya Defence Force has taken over the Kakamega Level Six hospital, and its construction will be completed before the year ends,” said Kindiki.
In the same address, the Deputy President also revealed that Bukhungu Stadium would be upgraded to international standards to serve the sporting interests of the region.
“I know people from Western love football, and therefore, Bukhungu stadium will be upgraded to host key championships,” he added.
Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula led the high-profile delegation to rally support for President Ruto’s administration and 2027 re-election bid.

Mudavadi used the occasion to defend the president against allegations of vote rigging following controversial remarks by Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Jehow.
“This is cheap politics. If you believe in President Ruto, don’t associate him with stealing votes. You’re portraying him badly,” said Mudavadi.
He commended the Cooperative Cabinet Secretary, Wycliffe Oparanya, for his efforts to revive the Cooperative movement, which he noted was key to the growth and stability of the economy.
Additionally, he urged residents to strengthen their economic participation through cooperative societies, stating that the government, through Cooperative CS Wycliffe Oparanya, is ready to support them.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, speaking at the same event, criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for promoting tribal politics during his U.S. tour, saying such behaviour weakens national unity.
“If you go overseas to speak to Kenyans, you must speak to all communities, not just your own. Every Kenyan abroad deserves representation,” Wetang’ula said.
He also called for the arrest of political figures accused of inciting the recent Saba Saba protests.
