National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has banned East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) legislator Falhada Iman from accessing Parliament after the fight with nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Umulkheir Harun Mohammed outside Parliament buildings on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
In a ruling on April 9, Wetangula said Falhada will not be allowed to access the Parliament buildings and facilities for 90 days.

He directed Falhada to express herself to the Speaker and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Service Commission in writing by 5pm Monday, April 14.
He said the legislature will only be allowed in Parliament on the day she will deliver the letter of apology.

“In the meantime, Falhad is forthwith precluded from accessing the pressings of Parliament, Parliament buildings, and facilities for a period of 90 days, save on the day and time she will deliver her written explanation to the Speaker in which case she must be escorted by the sergeant-at-arms,” Wetangula said.
However, Wetangula gave Harun a chance to explain herself and apologize to the House.

Wetangula said he will review the response by Falhad and guide the House on any further that will be taken on both of them.
Besides, he said there are reports that the video was taken by another sitting MP.
He revealed that investigation is ongoing to ascertain these claims, and the accused MP risks punishment if they are true.
“The recording to the video of the altercation between the two members is claimed to have been done by a sitting a member of this House. Should the claims be ascertained, it will also attract the sanctions under Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act Cap 6,” he said.

While addressing the House, Harun said he saw Tigani East MP Lawrence Mpuru Aburi recording the video.
Tigania revealed that she approached Mpuru and asked not to post the video on social media wondering if the incident planned and he was part of it.
“I am short sighted, when I was in the middle in of the scuffle, I noticed Honourable Mpuru was recording the video. Immediately after the incident I approached and asked him not to release the video because he was the onyl person recording. I wonder what his intention was and if this was a targeted target and is he was part of the incident,” Harun said.

He cautioned Members against involving such altercation while giving history of similar incidents at the House.
“You are called Honourable because you are people of honour and this honour is not yours, it is the honour of the people who sent here. You carry that decorum and dignity not for yourself, but for the people who gave you the privilege to come to this House and represent them,” Wetangula said.
The two leaders had issued separate statements apologizing to the public and the House regarding the incident.
