The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued an update on the traffic situation along the Nairobi – Mombasa Highway.
KeNHA in a statement on April 25, 2024, noted that normal traffic flow at the Konza Area along the highway was disrupted due to ongoing road construction works.
The authority urged motorists to exercise patience as it highlighted that the section is undergoing construction works.
“KeNHA advises motorists traveling through the Konza Area to exercise patience and caution due to ongoing construction works causing traffic delays,” read part of the statement.
The Authority while highlighting that it understands the inconvenience caused, noted that efforts are being made to expedite the process.
On the other hand, motorists were urged to drive carefully and follow all traffic regulations.

“We anticipate smoother traffic flow by the weekend. Thank you for your cooperation,” the statement adds.

Photos and videos seen by The Kenya Times showed a long trail of vehicles including trucks along the highway moving slowly on one side of the road.
The update comes hours after the authority issued an advisory concerning the same highway due to flooding.
KeNHA in its statement alerted motorists that a section of Mombasa Road, between Athi River Interchange and Sabaki on the route to Nairobi, had flooded.
Motorists have been constantly urged to exercise extreme caution and adhere to guidelines listed by the Authority.
Among the listed guidelines included driving at reduced speeds to maintain control over vehicles.
Also, motorists were asked to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

“Avoid unnecessary lane changes and overtaking. Your safety is our top priority. Drive safely,” KeNHA added.
Floods wreak havoc
The heavy rains being witnessed throughout the country have led to destruction of property, loss of lives and even damage of infrastructure.
Among other roads affected on April 24, 2024, included the Athi River – Namanga Road particularly at Kitengela bridge section.
The authority however confirmed that the storm water that had overtopped the Kitengela Bridge had receded, and traffic flow was restored.
Also, motorists plying the busy Thika Superhighway were affected in various sections after floods rendered the road impassable.
Motorists have been constantly urged by both KeNHA and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to avoid driving through flooded areas if possible until the water recedes.
