The National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Police Service in conjunction with Whitestone & Company Auctioneers and Petfriend Consultants have announced the auction of motor vehicles, motorcycles, assorted equipment, roofing tiles and ridges on various dates and venues.
In a public notice on October 22, the NPS invited Interested bidders to obtain further information from the tender websites

“Interested bidders may obtain further information from the tender websites: www.tenders.go.ke and www.interior.go.ke so that they can visit and verify details for themselves from October 22nd to 6th November 2024,” the Kenya Police Service read in part.
Additionally, NPS further cited, “A catalogue containing details of the items to be auctioned and the conditions for sale, may be downloaded from the given websites above.”

Disposal of Vehicles & Motorcycles in Police Stations
In a Gazette notice on September 27, the government announced plans to auction vehicles and motorcycles lying in various police stations. With the notice came an ultimatum of 30 days from various police stations such as Dandora which, Kiserian and Shauri Moyo urging owners to collect their vehicles before then.
At the same time, Subaiga Police Station in Meru, gave 90 days for the owners to collect their vehicles.
The Gazette notice cited in part, “The owners of motor vehicles and motorcycles which are lying idle and unclaimed within these Police Stations, to collect them at the said police station.”
“Failure to which Windsor House Auctioneers shall sell by way of public auction on expiry of a thirty (30) days’ notice from the date of this publication,” the notice further elaborated.
NPS Previous Actions
In June 2024, the National Police Service similarly announced the sale of various vehicles. With the announcement, NPS also explained the conditions of the sale as outlined below:
The Commission reserves the right to accept or reject and annul the process at any time prior, without thereby incurring any liability to bidders. In the case of annulment, all bidders submitted, and specifically, the deposit shall be promptly returned to the bidders.
The bidder then was not allowed to bid whatsoever without the Bidding Number.

The successful bidders in the public auction then were given a period of at least seven days from the date of the auction to pay for the items. The purchased Item/ Asset must be collected within seven (7) days after making payment.
Failure to which the purchaser was to be liable to pay storage charges of Ksh. 1,000 (Kenya Shillings One Thousand) per day.
Moreover, whenever the successful bidder fails to meet the bidding requirements the bidder shall forfeit the bid deposit.
The Commission and the appointed auctioneer reserve the right to reject all bids below the reserve price.
