The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced a public auction of unserviceable, obsolete motor vehicles.
The roads authority in a statement released on Monday, February 12 noted that the sale would take place on February 15, 2024, at the Barabara Plaza Parking Lot, Block B from 10 am.
KeRRA directed interested bidders to repay a refundable deposit to their account so as to obtain a bidding number for every item they show interest in.
“The prospective bidders are required to pay a refundable deposit of Kshs 30,000 to KeRRA account to obtain a bidding number for each lot/ item they are interested in.,” part of the statement read.

Auction KeRRA Offices and Requirements
Also, interested bidders can view the vehicles at the KeRRA regional offices in Kilifi, Narok, Busia, Siaya, Makueni and Nairobi Machakos Road, off Enterprise Road (Industrial Area) to bid and verify the vehicles.
“Trenad Auctioneers have been appointed as the auctioneers for the event and parties interested can seek clarification from them or from the Supply Chain Management Office of KeRRA,” the authority noted.
Furthermore, interested bidders are required to obtain a bidder number from Trenad Auctioneers Nairobi during auction day.
“No bidding whatsoever shall be allowed for a bidder without the Bidding Number. All auctions start at 10.00 am in the region listed above,” KeRRA added.
In addition, prospective bidders were advised to carefully inspect and verify the particulars of the vehicles during this period, as the authority’s director general or the appointed auctioneer does not warrant the particulars provided.
How To Bid
In their statement, KeRRA noted that one will only be allowed to bid after paying the refundable deposit to their bank account.

However, in case of an annulment, the deposit shall be refunded.
A successful bidder will be required to pay a deposit of 25% of the purchase price immediately upon winning the bid.
Also, successful bidders are granted a minimum of fourteen days to complete the payment for the items purchased.
“The successful bidders in the public auction shall be given a period of at least fourteen days from the date of the auction to pay for the items,” KeRRA noted.
Caution To Winning Bidders
However, the authority warned that failing to meet this requirement would results in forfeiture of the bid deposit.
Furthermore, KeRRA said it is mandatory for the purchased item or asset to be collected within seven days after payment is made failure to which will attract a storage fee of Ksh 1,000.
Successful bidders will cater for all costs applicable, and taxes associated with the transfer of the purchased item or asset, particularly in the case of motor vehicles.
