The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has provided an update on the resumption of commuter train services on select routes following a temporary suspension.
In a statement on July 9th ,2024, KRC announced the resumption of service on the Kahawa West to Nairobi Central Station.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the Kahawa West to Nairobi Central Station Commuter train will resume service on Wednesday July 10, 2024,”read part of the statement.
Likewise, the corporation confirmed the resumption of the Nanyuki passenger service train that departs Nanyuki station every Sunday at 9:00 am.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the Nanyuki Passenger Service train will resume service on Friday July 12, 2024,” stated the corporation.

Additionally, the corporation stated that the Nanyuki passenger services will resume in line with the normal schedule.

The corporation thanked members of the public for their patience and understanding noting that it was committed to make sure normalcy is restored across the entire Commuter Service.
On May 2nd Kenya Railways announced closure of several routes including Nairobi- Ruiru, Nairobi – Embakasi village, Nairobi- Lukenya and Nairobi -Syokimau .
The corporation was forced to temporarily close the routes due to the rains that led to flooding in Nairobi and its environs.
However, the corporation gave an alternative for its customers confirming that the Commuter Link train plying between Nairobi Terminus and Nairobi Central Railway Station would remain in operation.
Later, KRC announced the resumption of service on the Nairobi-Ruiru Commuter train in a statement on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Weatherman Update
This resumption comes at a time when the Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rains are set to persist in several parts of the country including Nairobi.
The weatherman in a statement on July 8, noted that heavy rains are expected from Tuesday July 9 up to July 15, 2024.
Kenya Met in its seven-day weather forecast said that among regions expected to experience heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms included the Highlands West regions of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
