The Kenya Railways (KR) has provided an update regarding the cancellation of the train service operating on the Limuru-Nairobi CBD route
The Management has announced that the train will resume operations at 5:20p.m
“We hereby inform members of the public that the commuter train that plies the Nairobi CBD – Limuru route will resume operations today evening at 5:20 pm,” KR said.
KR said the blockage on a section of the line that was caused by siltation deposited on the line by rainwater has been cleared.
Earlie, KR said the train between Limuru and Nairobi will not run due to unavoidable circumstances.
“We wish to notify members of the public that due to unavoidable circumstances, the train that plies Limuru – Nairobi CBD route will not run this morning,” reads part of the notice.
However, the commuter trains serving Lukenya, Syokimau, Embakasi Village and Ruiru stations will run as per schedule.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates on service resumption in the course of the day,” KRC said.
The Nairobi Commuter Rail system offers two key routes—Embakasi and Syokimau—providing efficient travel options for commuters in the city.
Kenya Railways Limuru Route
Travelers heading to Limuru can board a train from Nairobi Central Station at 5:50 p.m., stopping at key stations such as Kibera, Dagoreti, and Kikuyu before reaching Limuru at 7:20 p.m.
The return journey starts early, with the first train leaving Limuru at 5:50 a.m. and arriving in Nairobi at 7:50 a.m., making it ideal for morning commuters.
Embakasi Route
The DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) train operates multiple trips from Nairobi Central Station to Embakasi Village.
Morning commuters can catch the first train at 5:45 a.m., with intervals of approximately one to two hours until the last departure at 8:00 p.m.
For the return journey, trains from Embakasi Village start at 6:19 a.m. and run until 7:15 p.m., ensuring flexibility for passengers.
The train departs Nairobi Central Station at 6:00 p.m. and Embakasi Village at 7:00 a.m., offering an additional travel option for specific times.

Syokimau Route
The Syokimau route caters to commuters traveling between Nairobi Central Station and Syokimau Station.
DMU services begin as early as 6:35 a.m., with frequent trips throughout the day until the final departure from Nairobi at 8:10 p.m.
For the reverse direction, trains leave Syokimau starting at 7:15 a.m., running until 7:05 p.m.
Two commuter train services on this route—departing Nairobi at 12:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and Syokimau at 6:20 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.—provide additional convenience for travelers.
These schedules ensure Nairobi residents have reliable, well-timed rail transport options for daily commutes, easing congestion and saving time.

Lukenya Route
The Lukenya route operates two evening trips from Nairobi Central Station, with departures at 5:50 p.m. and 6:40 p.m.
Stops include Makadara, Embakasi, Mlolongo, and Athi River before reaching Lukenya at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively.
For early travelers, the first train from Lukenya departs at 5:45 a.m., reaching Nairobi by 7:40 a.m.. A second option departs Lukenya at 7:00 a.m., arriving in Nairobi at 8:50 a.m.
