Businessman Joseph Kairo Wambui, popularly known as Khalif Kairo, has announced that he is now a certified commercial pilot after completing his flight training, attaining the required flying hours, and successfully passing his final practical test.
Kairo shared the milestone on Instagram, describing it as one of the most significant achievements of his life.
The final assessment was overseen by Captain Mark Koross, marking the end of years of dedication and preparation.
Kairo expressed gratitude for the journey, crediting God for the accomplishment and thanking his family, friends, and flight school, Flitestar Kenya, for their support.
“Officially a commercial pilot after attaining the required hours, milestones & passing my final practical exam,” wrote Khalif Kairo.
In the same post, Kairo thanked his family, friends, and flight training school, Flitestar Kenya, for supporting him throughout the journey.
Khalif Kairo Qualifies as a Commercial Pilot After Multiple Exam Attempts
Khalif Kairo has openly admitted to failing multiple aviation (pilot) exams on several occasions.

In July 2024, after a leaked result slip showed he had failed four out of eight papers in his KCAA commercial pilot accreditation exams on Aircraft General Knowledge, Flight Performance & Planning, Meteorology, and Navigation, he addressed the issue publicly.
He acknowledged the failures, explained that it was normal and frustrating as he had attempted them a couple of times before, and confirmed he would retake the failed papers.
In one of his posts responding to critics, Kairo said that the average pilot fails the CPL exam and that this is normal.
“Failing exams is not the end of the world. The average pilot fails the CPL exam…” He also noted on X: “the exams I failed are for flying bigger aircraft like jets. It’s pretty normal to fail them…” stated Khalif.
He has similarly spoken about his KCSE performance as a young man, which prevented him from joining university immediately and forced him to start working as a car salesman at 18 to support his mother.
Khalif Kairo Mourned His Mother’s Death in India
Earlier this year, Kairo’s mother, Mrs Wambui, died on the morning of 15th February 2026 while receiving treatment in India.

Confirming the demise, Kairo shared a tribute to the loss of her mother on X.
“We lost our mum earlier today after a long and bravely fought battle with illness,” said Kairo on X
The family did not disclose what sickness Wambui was battling that led to her death.
Kairo, the son of Wambui, has penned a heartfelt message, mourning the loss of her mother.
“Our hearts are heavy, but we are grateful to God for the time, love, memories, and lessons she gave us. She fought with strength and grace, and we thank God for every moment we shared with her,” said Kairo.
For years, Kairo has been sharing how he grew up in Kawangware under the custody of her mum, who owned a kiosk, and later relocated to the United States in 2017.
