National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has cautioned to Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, emphasizing that he has details on the hypocrisy of the Murang’a governor.
Kimani Ichung’wah has clarified that he is not involved in pressuring the Murang’a governor, but rather the governor is actively engaging in hypocritical politics.
Citing Irungu’s past interaction, Ichung’wah, including a meeting in Lavington during the impeachment process, the majority leader argued that it was not to exert pressure, but rather to call out the engagements of the governor.
“I said what I said to you at Kenneth Matiba hospital in public. Not to exert pressure but to call out the hypocrisy I saw in your engagements,” part of the statement from Kimani read.
Further, Kimani added that both he and the governor knew each other at a better level, reminding the governor of their interactions in the Lavington meeting, arguing that the Murang’a governor had exerted pressure to be named the deputy president.
In addition, the National Assembly majority leader affirmed that his political stance on Kangata’s candidature had not changed and remained the same to date.
Kimani Ichung’wah also issued a warning to the Murang’a governor for using his name to please the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua.
Instead, he advised that the governor pay the ransom demanded from him by Gachagua to be a desired candidate.
Failure to follow the advice, Kimani has threatened to expose the full details of the Lavington meeting and how the Murang’a governor handled the resources in Murang’a, which would disadvantage the governor.

Irungu Kang’ata Accuses Kimani Ichung’wah
The response from the National Assembly majority leader follows the announcement by the Murang’a governor on the day President William Ruto visited the county.
Kang’ata announced he would not defend his seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in 2027 and would later announce the party he would run with.
“I have no doubt to say after careful reflection, I wish to state that come 2027, I will not defend my seat on the current party ticket,” Kang’ata declared.
Further, Kang’ata ruled out any interest in vying for the presidency or the deputy presidency as part of his political plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a subsequent interview on Citizen Sunday Live, Kang’ata explained that, due to the current politics in the county, UDA was disadvantaged in Murang’a.
In addition, the governor pointed out pressure during the presidential visits and public calls to endorse the government program and Ruto’s politics, as well as pressure from the National Assembly majority leader.
“For the last few days, the President has been in Murang’a, and every time I go there, I am being pressured to endorse programs, to endorse him. Pressure had come publicly, including my friend Kimani Ichung’wah,” Kang’ata stated.
However, he affirmed that he remains loyal to the UDA party and would continue to cooperate with the national government to complete development projects.

Mt Kenya Political Competition
In an effort to gather more support from the Mt Kenya region, President William Ruto attended a church service at AIC Githumu in Kandara and visited Njiiri High School, marking his second visit in a week.
Gachagua, on the other hand, has been actively mobilizing support from the people of the Mt. Kenya region.
Following the announcement by the Murang’a governor after the presidential visit, the Mt Kenya region is expected to see a political shift in the 2027 election.
