The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has called on county governments and partners to invest in accommodation facilities for its students.
Speaking in Homa Bay during the International Investment Conference, KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch urged investors to capitalize on the College’s thriving expansion by investing in student accommodation.
According to KMTC, the demand for accommodation facilities stems from the ever-rising student population in its campuses across the country.
“With a decade of remarkable growth in its programs and substantial investments in infrastructure, the College has experienced unprecedented demand,” Dr. Oluoch stated.
He highlighted a strategic shift in the College’s investment focus, moving from accommodation facilities to critical utilities such as classrooms, modern teaching equipment, and the recruitment of training staff.

“We are undertaking this transition to create opportunities for local communities surrounding our campuses, allowing them to reap financial benefits,” said Dr. Oluoch pointing out that 50 percent of students currently reside outside the campuses.
Accommodation investment Program
Oluoch further clarified that the strategic initiative aligns with KMTC’s commitment, which obligates it to not only cater to KMTC immediate needs but also to contribute positively to the surrounding communities.
The College’s leadership team, led by Board Chairperson Mr. Joseah K. Cheruiyot, actively participated in the event held in Homa Bay County.
During the conference, KMTC showcased its diverse range of products and services, actively involving students in the process.
In addition Dr. Oluoch highlighted the significance of promoting research and advocated for incentivizing researchers to foster innovation and advancements in the field.
Finally, he stated that the College continues to position itself as a dynamic institution with a forward-looking approach to education and community development.

KMTC 72 campuses strategically located in various parts of the country. The Graduates of the College account for more than 85% of the local middle level workforce in the health facilities in Kenya.

Its population was estimated to be 22,000 before shooting to 33,000 as of March 2017 due to the expansion program.
To ensure equity in access to training opportunities, the College established admission desks on all Campuses. This was to support admissions at the local community level. As a result, the student population stood at about 52,286, as of February 2022.
Some of the courses offered include Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Diploma and Higher Diploma), Community Oral Health (Diploma), Dental Technology (Diploma), Health Records and Information Technology (Certificate and Diploma).
Others include Health Promotion (Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma), Medical Education (Higher Diploma), Medical Engineering (Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma) and Medical Imaging Sciences (Diploma and Higher Diploma).
