KNEC Clarifies Releasing Lugulu Girls KCSE Results

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has clarified reports that it has released the KCSE 2024 results of Lugulu Girls High School.

In a notice on January 15, KNEC flagged two fake posters purporting that it has released the results.

“Fake post alert,” KNEC said.

One of the posters claimed that the school recorded and 100 percent transition to university with a mean grade of 10.23.

The poster provided the following results breakdown per grade: A (plain)45, A-(minus) 108, B+ (plus)270, B(plain)=189, B- (minus)=69 and C+ (plus)18.

Similar figures were contained in a different poster that KNEC also flagged as fake.

Lugulu Girls High School candidates are among the 2,829 KCSE 2024 candidates whose results were withheld after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba released them on January 9, 2025.

Ogamba stated that the results were withheld due to suspicions of exam irregularities, pending the completion of an investigation within 30 days.

Cancelled Results

Further, KNEC cancelled examination results for 840 candidates for engaging in exam irregularities.

He said disciplinary action would be taken against 91 teachers who were reported to have aided in examination malpractices.

“It is unfortunate that a few contracted professionals and teachers are, however, still insistent on ruining the future of our learners by subjecting them to examination malpractices,” Ogamba said.

Lugulu Girls Results Withheld

The school principal Dinah Cheruiyot appealed to candidates and their parents to be patient as the school pursues the results through the official appeal channels.

In a letter addressed to parents, she said the candidates will receive the results once the process is complete.

“Dear Parent/Guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received their examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time. Further communication will follow,” Cheruiyot said.

Barasa Reveals Reason Behing the Move

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa said the 2024 results have been withheld and not cancelled as some people claim.

He said KNEC is verifying the results due to the students’ outstanding performance.

Barasa assured parents and candidates that the results will be available in a matter of days.

“I have talked to the Education CS, and he has told me that the results have been withheld. There is a difference between withholding the results and rejecting the results.

“The way they did the examinations, the students overperformed until the examiners decided to conduct a verification. But I want to assure the parents of Lugulu and Kenyans that the results of Lugulu Girls can only be delayed for a few days,” he added.
