The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has warned motorists of traffic disruptions on Ngong Road near the Naivasha Road and Kingara Road junctions, around the Junction Mall area, from Monday, March 9 to Monday, March 23, 2026.
In a statement on March 6, KURA stated that the disruptions will mainly occur during evening and night hours, from 6 pm to 2 am.
“Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Ngong Road near the Naivasha Road and Kingara Road Junctions (Around the Junction Mall Area) will experience traffic disruption from Monday, 9th March, 2026 to Monday, 23rd March 2026,” read part of the notice.
According to KURA, the disruption is necessary to allow for concreting of the flyover deck currently under construction.
KURA Announces 15-Day Traffic Disruption on Ngong Road
During these nighttime hours, Karen-bound traffic will be diverted from the Kenya Science Campus entrance to the Nairobi City County Training School entrance, with only a single lane open in each direction.
During the day, two lanes will remain open in each direction, and no major traffic diversions are expected.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and follow all road signs. Police officers and traffic marshals will be on site to ensure smooth traffic flow.
KURA apologized for any inconvenience and urged road users to plan their journeys accordingly as it continues its work to transform urban mobility.
On November 6, 2025, KURA alerted the public about traffic disruptions in the section to facilitate the installation of a steel structure for the ongoing flyover construction.
During that period, traffic was diverted between the Kenya Science Campus and the Nairobi City County Training School to maintain two-way flow within the affected section.

Construction of Ngong Road Flyover
The Ngong Road Flyover Project is part of the KURA’s broader plan to improve traffic flow and enhance urban mobility in Nairobi.
The project involves the construction of a steel flyover near The Junction Mall, designed to alleviate congestion along the busy Ngong Road corridor, which connects the city center to residential areas such as Dagoretti, Karen, and Ngong.
This crucial infrastructure project is set to alleviate the long-standing traffic congestion that has plagued the area, bringing significant improvements to Nairobi’s urban transport system.

Funded by a concessional loan of Ksh3.58 billion (EUR 25.3 million) from the Spanish Corporate International Fund (FIEM), the project is expected to be completed by July 2027.
This initiative aligns with the Kenyan Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure, which is crucial for stimulating long-term economic growth and improving mobility within urban areas.
Once completed, the flyover will bring numerous benefits to Nairobi’s residents. Most notably, it will dramatically reduce traffic congestion, especially at key intersections, saving time for motorists, public transport passengers, and pedestrians.
Safety will be prioritized through the addition of Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) facilities, ensuring safe passage for cyclists and pedestrians.
The project also includes modern street lighting to improve visibility and upgraded drainage systems to mitigate flooding risk during the rainy season.
